Editorial Review for Sangria – by Steve Baltin
In Short
The view overlooking the water is not the only sight to see, as South Bay locals and visitors flock to this Latin-infused pier club. A elegant eatery by early evening's light, Sangria sheds its inhibitions come 10pm, when the restaurant closes. The sangria is the specialty of the house, but other libations are also in steady supply, especially margaritas. For weekend dance parties, surfers, beach types and the under-25 set comprise most of the crowd.

Insider Tips
Know Before You GoThere's no cover or line before 9pm. From 9pm to 10pm, the club closes its doors and freezes out the line so dinner patrons can eat in peace. After that, be prepared to wait, sometimes as long as two hours.
When to GoMusic varies from night to night; it could be flamenco, house, or live jazz. Call ahead for the schedule.

I have been to Sangria about three times. Every time the experience has been less than desirable. The security staff holds the line for no apparent reason and will make the line wait about 45 minutes to an hour to get in. People cut the line and pay off the bouncer all the time, but usually these are the drunk group of five girls who think they don't have to wait in any line. The security staff is very rude. It's a shame because the bartenders are very nice and apologetic for the horrible host staff. Drinks also come in plastic dixie cups which is unacceptable for a place that charges a cover. They do this so they don't have to pay more barbacks to clean up hard plastic cups. Cheap plastic cups mean spilled drinks while dancing or moving through the crowd. The crowd is also quite disappointing. It's the Hermosa Crowd that thinks they are in an elite and hard to get into club, and they act that way- which quickly becomes tiring. The security will also decide to not let you pass from room to room because of capacity. This means that if you credit card/girlfriend/friends are in the inside room, and the security decides to hold the door to the outside room, your going to be stuck until they let you into the other room. I had to ask for the manager to get into the inside room to close my tab and leave. Why wait in line, pay a cover, be treated rudely...only to get an overpriced drink in a flimsy plastic cup to hang out with lame people and possibly not be allowed to get your credit card or see your friends when you want. Why?
Pros: Bartenders are nice
Cons: Long Line, Cover, Horrible Bar Amenities, Crowd

Gotta say, if you don't mind droppin a c-note on food, drink, and the like.... You've pretty much going get your hook up. 1--The thing to keep in mind is the opposite gender is there for the same reason, so don't be awkward. 2-- Dress nice. I have to tell you, the dudes dressed like chumps were sittin off to the side, NOT have a great night. 3-- this is for the guys, Dance. Period. Sangria has two great dance floors (little crowded but ok) and two DJ's every night. So get in there and get some. Sidenote: This place has any number so celebrities come in on any given night, so be wary of that. They'll be mobbed, don't be part of the problem.
Pros: Great singles joint. If you don't come out with a girl on your arm, you're probably just a tool.
Cons: CROWDED. Expensive. Lots of dudes there for the same reason you are.
