This tiny Hermosa Beach sushi spot draws local couples and young crowds with its fresh fish and friendly service.
Editor's Tips
- The Extras:
- The sushi chef is known to get creative, so if you're in an adventurous mood and not too worried about how much you're spending, order omakase.
- Know Before You Go:
- While there are a number of rolls offered, the raw creations tend to take center stage. The tuna sashimi carpaccio--delicately sliced pieces of fish lingering in a light ponzu sauce--is a popular choice.

THE BEST
by mainsail12 at Citysearch
Sushi Sei is a Hermosa fixture. I've been going there for over 20 years.
What can I say. Great fresh sushi, interesting combinations of flavors, new specials every weekend and an amazing sake list. How does a small local place do it so perfectly?
It's the real Japanese sushi chefs!!!
Seems like most sushi places these days aer Korean or Mexican. Not here and it shows in the quality of the fish and the preparation. THE BEST!!
Go in, sit and bar and get to know them. They are vey knowledagable and will guide you through the most amazing sushi experience and they will remember you when you return.
GO, Go GO

Best Sushi

I'm surprised in reading very old reviews. Sushi Sei is under new management for about two years. The Restaurant went through total transformation. They remodeled the interior, expanded their menu. What really draws me in coming back over and over again, is the top quality fish selection, big variety of sake and draft beer.
One drawback is parking.
Best Sushi Bar in LA

I go here every time I'm in LA. I ask the sushi chef to make me whatever he wants and it's all very good. Nice master chef too. Can't go wrong and if it's happy hour the price is right.
not the best service
by riceball99 at Citysearch
While the sushi chefs are delightful, the onwer (the WARDEN who guards the door) is not friendly at all. If you go for "happy hour", but sure to arrive promptly at 5:30 or you will not get a seat at the bar. And heaven-forbid you SHOULD sit at the bar and ask to save a seat for your friend who is parking the car! You will immediately get a scolding that they "do not save seats!!" OH.. better yet- sit at the bar, and order a beer while you're waiting. That really irritates him. Quite honestly, I have enjoyed this restaurant for many years now, but lately I have been very disappointed in the treatment I have personally received (again, NOT referring to the sushi chefs). Maybe I'll just take my $150 cash down the street to Club Sushi instead.
- Pros: delicious specials, great head chef
- Cons: small bar, unfriendly owner
