Editorial Review for Malibu Seafood – by Jane Tunks
The Scene
Never mind the no-frills ambience, snag a picnic table with a prime ocean view and gussy it up with a tablecloth, candles and B.Y.O.B. wine. A low-key crowd of wave-worn surfers, casual couples and penny-pinching families belly up to the counter to place their order, then kick back and enjoy the scenery.
The Food
It's worth braving the weekend lines at this eatery/fish market, where nearly every type of seafood is grilled, steamed or fried. Most diners gorge themselves on deep-fried seafood plates, with a choice of batter-fried cod, shrimp, scallops, oysters and clam strips, served with thumb-thick french fries. But steamed shellfish gives rival fish shack Neptune's Net a run for its money. Simply prepared, the pure, unadorned flavors burst, like sweet Maine lobster, peel-and-eat shrimp and green-lipped mussels bobbing in a delicate broth. Grilled fish, such as ahi, salmon and swordfish, prepared with the same straightforward style, are equally successful.

This is a great stop-in for lunch on a beach day. The food is always consistent and what they lack in variety they make up for in freshness. I've been several times and have never been disappointed. If you go during the lunch or dinner rush, you can expect to wait a while, but with nice picnic-style open seating and good views of Zuma beach there's plenty to occupy your time. Their lot is definitely small, and I would recommend just grabbing a free parking spot along PCH, but other than that a good place with great views that won't make your wallet suffer.
Pros: Great Views
Cons: Limited lot parking

Not a regular restaurant. Just a shack with some patio dining and covered outdoor tables not conveniently located to where you place and pick up your order. Parking was extremely difficult and fee parking only on the side. Restrooms were located in a separate building outside the restaurant and fish market. We did not bother eating in this picnic style atmosphere but there were crowds of people waiting for what looked like greasy fish and french fries. There are much better places with a view of the ocean.
