In Short – Opposite the Malibu Pier, this beach bar is a local mainstay. The rosebush-lined exterior opens to a lodge-like ambience, where the large dance floor is decorated with rustic photographs and road signs. Swinging doors reveal the cozy leather-couch lounge and long full bar, while a mirror-lined corridor leads to two billiards tables and sprawling outdoor patio. It hosts shows from acoustic to rap, and the staff serves drinks and an American menu to steady crowds.
Editor's Tips
- Parking:
- There's a charge if you park directly in front, so opt for the free spaces on the left side of the building.
- Know Before You Go:
- During the winter, the bar closes early on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. Call ahead. The kitchen usually closes around 10pm.
- The Extras:
- A change machine is conveniently provided beside the pool tables and can change $1 and $5 bills.

Unhappy Experience

This was the first time I had ever been to the Malibu Inn. This place was recommended by a friend. The server was friendly enough. We ordered an appetizer of chips, salsa and guacamole. Really bad start. The chips were very greasy and had obviously been sitting too long. Drinks were ok but nothing to write home about. The Saturday night band was setting up so we decided to walk up PCH and look for someplace else to eat, with the intent to return. After walking for awhile and seeing that most of the restaurants were closed, we went back to the Malibu Inn, only to not be greeted and to have to ask for a table. A very rude woman told us that they had no more tables except the one in the corner. She had also ignored us the first time we were there, except for her occassional stare-down. There were NO chairs and so I asked her if chairs came with the table. She replied, no. No smile, and she had no intention of accommodating us. I just glared at her and walked out. We had dinner across the street at the Beachcomber. Much better atmosphere and the food was incredible. My recommendation is to by-pass the Malibu Inn for dinner. We did return later for the entertainment, which was great. However the food is not good and the service of some of the employees leave something to be desired. I doubt that I will return to the Malibu Inn. My first impression was not a good one. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I would try to talk someone out of going there.
- Pros: Drinks and entertainment were ok
- Cons: Snotty waitress/manager, food was terrible
RUDE staff. BAD food. Go elsewhere.

I think the title says it all. The menu is very limited, and the food is greasy and poorly prepared. The staff is rude and the service is poor. Your time and money would be spent better elsewhere in my opinion.
- Pros: Location
- Cons: Bad food, Rude staff
