The Scene – In the summer of 1973 the Dume Room opened as the first business in what is now Point Dume Plaza. I was lucky to stumble across the Dume Room when I first turned 21. I traveled by train from the East Coast and bought a car in California, ofcourse I had to travel to Malibu. When I arrived, it was late~I thought the Plaza was a motel spot at first, but when I realized it wasn't, I saw the lights at the Dume Room and figured I'd get myself drunk enough not to mind sleeping in my car. I met some of Malibu's BEST in that bar. I was almost instantly a sister and friend to all. Richie, Animal, Mario, Patty, Mike and all the regulars made my summer in California one of the best. I was adopted almost instantly and adopted all into my own heart. When the bell rang at the bar, you knew someone was happy and wanted to share. Everyday fresh flowers were placed in the restroom and the pool games were always invigorating. Full of various conversations with so many interesting people, I will never forget my summer at the Dume Room. I've thought about traveling back to California and I know that one of the first places I will go will be to the Dume Room to see the smiles and drinks in hand and create more good times!!!
