great asian food, great horrible service, great place, crispy rice, friendly server, great lively atmosphere, mediocre good food
Esquisite. Koi is one of my all-time favorite sushi restaurants. From its delicious food, to its unique design and dimlit atmosphere. However, due to our economic situations; prices here have gone up. So if you are the "wallet-watcher" type than maybe this isnt the place for you.
good food, very expensive!. the food is really good , the sushis are amazing and fresh but....the way they are charging people is crazy!!! i use to go to this place very very often but i stopped going there a year and a half ago because the portions were getting smaller and smaller and the prices higher and higher...i had some friends in town and said: maybe they have learn from their mistakes...are u kidding me...the service is worse and worse, pushing you to order as much and as quick as possible and the portions are even smaller and the prices are higher!!! it s a shame that in this economy restaurants take customers for fools!!! i will never go back to such a place, even if it s one of my favorite sushi in town!
Bad service everytime....
Koi Koi Koi...
Come on man..you're paying top dollar for the food, but that's definitley all your big bucks cover. I've given this restaurant three chances and each time they've outdone themselves with shockingly horrific incidents. First time: we asked for a bottle of sake the waitress recommended. It would have been common decency for her to share the $100 price tag on it before she brought it over and poured us our first shots of it. Second time: When the waiter accidentally attempted charging our credit card $564 instead of the $64 intended, he came over hollering amongst the entire restaurant that the card was declined. Scene causing and humiliating. Third, and last time for good: our waitress came chasing us outside in the valet line demanding more of a tip than the 12% she hardly deserved for the 2 glimpses we got of her the entire duration of our meal and the 20 minute wait between each item we ordered. This place is just not worth it.
Great place to bring out-of-towners. This is the best place in LA to bring people that are visiting--especially first timers. The ambiance is amazing. You see a really good mix of people. The crispy tuna rolls and cod are amazing. The service has always been great and everyone that I have ever eaten there with has had a great experience.
Best Sushi Ever!. Absolutely fantastic sushi! I came here for dinner with an old friend who frequents this establishment a few times a week. He did all the ordering and my god, it was spot on. The crispy rice with spicy tuna was fantastic. The drinks here were fabulous as well. Very packed place, which is a good sign. Atmosphere was a great vibe, but the music was a bit too loud.
Sushi Lover. I am a foodie and have eaten at many many LA restaurants, and I have to say, I am always impressed whenever I eat at Koi. The food is delicious, and I have always been treated really well. On my recent visit, I tried several of their new dishes and love them all. For example, Salmon Carpaccio with truffles (and I usually do not eat Salmon) and the Spicy Crunchy Yellowtail Tartare (literally melts in your mouth). Request the back patio for great people watching. I'll definitely be back soon!
BROKEN GLASS in our mushroom salad.
Last night I went to KOI with 5 people. We sat out back, in the patio. Service was ok I guess for what it is. Restaurant was about 1/2 full (it was a Friday night at 8:15pm).
My friend was about 3 bites into her mushroom salad appetizer and I kid you not, shattered a large piece of F**KING GLASS, about 2" wide I'd say based on all the small pieces that came out of her mouth, along with 3 or 4 linen napkins worth of BL**D. It was real bad.
The response to the situation was absolutely deplorable, as offensive as the incident itself.
The manager, who could barely put together complete sentences (I suppose getting high when you're bored at work will do that to you), tried to fix things by bringing her a shot of tequila along with the rest of our food. Everyone was stunned. About 20 minutes go by, people finish "eating" in our group and along comes the bill. When we inquired as to why we were being charged and not escorted out on a flying carpet, we were literally yelled at. A friend was literally confronted on the way out by the 18-year old hostess who kept saying it wasn't the manager's fault and that it has only happened once in 12 years.
Moral to the story, KOI should be avoided like the plague.
0 stars.
A must try for all sushi lovers!. The decor is super slick and asian inspired which is what I like...When I go I usually go for Omakase where the meal is determined by the chef and highlights the freshest in season ingredients...I also like to have a "ty-tini" which is a martini made from TY KU (a sake based liqueur) AND the mango mochi for dessert YUM!....the service is good although it can be difficult to get a reservation, but well worth it...probably the best sushi in town!
JAPANASE: LA LA land essential dining. A great all round experience. Pretty pricey but hey what isnt in LA. Food and Service very good and good people spotting too.. Cool place..
