Editorial Review for Cafe Pierre – by Martha Burr

The Scene
For more than 30 years, this lively eatery has been a local favorite, blending sophisticated bistro fare with beach-y elegance. An updated modern interior sports startling red walls and banquettes under an arched cerulean ceiling, reflecting ocean light with plate glass and mirrors. Brazilian jazz segues into pleasant European electronica beneath the buzz of the casual but fashionable crowd.

The Food
Haute French Provencale food is authentic and artful, complemented by a perfect balance of Tuscan dishes and market-fresh California stylings. Half the menu offers classic dishes; the other rotates innovative seasonal fare. Baked goat cheese has a warm, creamy tang paired with crisp kalamata toast. Dungeness crab fritters are sweet and feather-light, alongside velvety fresh cauiflower soup. Fragrant wild boar ragout envelops rustic al dente papardelle. Beef cheeks--a true French classic-- are meltingly tender and rich. Transcendent rabbit confit braised in duck fat falls off the bone in succulent bites, each more savory than the lst.

Cafe Pierre was recommended to me as an excellent Manhattan Beach restaurant, so we tried it. It was not crowded on a Monday night, so we didn't have to worry about people at other tables. The tables are close to each other. All the food was good. The portions were on the small size. It was a good restaurant. Not the best, but very good. If you are in Manhattan Beach and want to try a decent restaurant, give it a try.
