In Short – Strawberry-pink and milk-white are the signature colors of the fast-food realm's ice-cream leader. Customers belly up to counters in food courts or free-standing shops where rows of ice cream-packed tubs stand ready under stacks of sugar cones and cardboard cups. Originally, the "31" promised a different flavor every day of the month. Nowadays, the number signifies constant variety--from Cherries Jubilee and Rocky Road to shakes, smoothies and custom-made cakes.

a (bad) idea whose timeliness and appeal peaked in the '60s. high fat, high sugar, mass-produced, truck-delivered, crud. better 6 flavors of authentic gelato or sorbet than 31 highly similar, gimmicky, bovine-lactation by-products. in an age where every corner market has ben and jerry's, haagen-daaz, and often several other choices, why bother? unless, of course, you enjoy the close proximity of surgically-corrected mother cougars and their non behaviorally-corrected spawn.
- Pros: cold?
- Cons: price, quality, ambience
