Editor's Tips
- The Extras:
- Tours of the Rogers house occur every hour on the half hour from 10:30am to 4:30pm daily.
- The Extras:
- Turn off Sunset Boulevard onto Will Rogers State Park Road. Most popular is Inspiration Point Loop, a two-mile trek that boasts an eye-catching view of the L.A. basin on clear days. Numerous options exist for the experienced hiker, such as Backbone Trail, that lead deeper into the Santa Monica Mountains. Venture out carefully and be sure to carry enough water.
- Know Before You Go:
- Polo matches take place every weekend from April through September (Saturdays from 2pm to 5pm and Sundays from 10am to 1pm). Bring a blanket and enjoy the game from the embankment on the north side of the field. Check the offical website for a full schedule.

A radiant beam into the early days of movie stars.
by Geraldleecarroll at Citysearch
Drive toward the ocean on sunset boulevard and discover the Will Rogers State Historical Park. It is a radiant beam into the early days of movie stars during the 1930s and the incredible and practical wisdom of the greatest of all Americans: Will Rogers. During his short lifetime, he demondstrated how an humble Indian boy from Oklahoma could transpire into the world's best know figure of his time. His final years were spent at the ranch at Pacific Palisades when he wasn't tramping around the world writing news colums, enlightening readers or starring in early day and wonderful motion pictures that 20th Century-Fox now has re-released on DVD. The ranch on Sunset Boulevard is California's finest memorial to a still-important role model.
Polo 101

This is one of L.A.'s best kept secret. A great day trip! Picnic, hike. watch a polo match, and enjoy a coastal sunset. Worth it to restore & energize!
Very Relaxing

My husband and I took a Sunday drive to the park just to watch the polo match and see the grounds. For many of us who never have an opportunity to see a polo match, this is your chance. The Park entrance fee is affordable and you can pack a picnic to enjoy some quality time with loved ones while watching the polo ponies prance down the field.
- Pros: quiet, ocean/mtn views
Fantastic views and a lost neighborhood

Will Rogers is a great place to start and end a day hike. My favorite hike here takes you up the ridge for great views and back down the eastern canyon through an overgrown street that is now part of the park. Hike up the hill past Inspiration Point continuing up past a bridge. After crossing the bridge, take the next trail down to the right. You will find some erie sights down here as you walk past old foundations and frames of houses long gone. After completing your hike, the polo grounds offer a great place to relax and enjoy the afternoon.
Sun, Sea and Fresh Air

My favorite place to hike in Southern California. This spot is accessible enough from anywhere in L.A. to be a morning, afternoon or all-day activity, depending on your schedule. The trails are reasonable enough for occasional hikers, with enough variety to keep more experienced trail folks and bikers happy. And the views--you'll see from downtown L.A. to Malibu to Palos Verdes and beyond. Simply gorgeous.
- Pros: Incredible views
- Cons: Parking
