Candles flicker on the tables, barely illuminating a pastoral mural of the countryside on one wall. The restaurant is so warm and cozy that even on a Saturday night, a couple's romantic night out isn't disturbed by a raucous birthday dinner. Simple and hearty fare includes salmon penne in tomato sauce and bowtie pasta and zucchini in vegetable broth. Sorbets are all served in the fruit from which they're made.

The ambiance is quiet, yet they can handle large groups and kids. I never really need a reservatio, seated right away, but the restaurant is always full and for good reason....the veal is is pounded and cuts like butter, the fish is well prepared, pan seared or sauteed, your choice.....vegetable puree excellent...I've never had a bad meal here.

This is a neighborhood Italian restaurant but is worth the drive. Modo Mio serves expertly prepared pasta, great no-cream soups, healthy risottos, and fine entrees. Their prices are reasonable (pastas even at $10 - unheard of these days), and I've never had a bad meal. Their gnocci is the best I've had anywhere. Unlike other Palisades Italian eateries and strictly Italian- AMERICAN food, this is Italian at its best: well-executed, delightful, and refined food. If you are looking for cheese and red sauce, look elsewhere (though they have Veal or Chicken Parm on special every once in a while, which is to die for). The combination of quality and value (and lack of pretensiousness) is hard to beat! They usually serve free bruschetta or sauteed mushrooms with your meal, as well.
