service terrible
by coyoterocket
one member of our party ordered the soup of the day, a corn chowder. He was served something that was not corn chowder. When we told the bus boy, he tried to get the waiter but the waiter said "not now, I'm busy".
When the waiter finally arrived, he admitted that it was "potato tomato" soup and that there wasn't any corn soup at all.
Another member of our party did not get his pizza when the rest of us were served. We were told several times that it was "coming up". The rest of us were done eating by the time the pizza came.
There were no apologies.
It was 8 pm and the place had about 4 tables occupied.
The owner was standing around on the patio chewing the fat with a couple of botox babes, he couldn't have cared less.
We had two "half" salads, two orders of pasta, a small pizza and a frittata and the check was for over $70.
What a dump.
- Cons: bad service and high prices

In my experience sin tivoli cafe, Iv'e had no problems, the food is excellent, the waitresses are nice, not only that but they offer a great variety of things, and not that expensive. I would recommend for you to go there. The chef and everybody else working in the kitchen are awesome. Their food is so delicious that sometimes I want more thatn one dish, but I have to resist it. I reccommend it.
- Pros: THE PIZZA AN PASTAS
- Cons: NONE

Extremely poor salads and service, insulting chef

I've lived in Pacific Palisades for years and, in the past have enjoyed the Tivoli Cafe. This afternoon changed my mind. I invited my sister to the restaurant for her birthday. We both ordered a salad--I, a pear salad with organic greens, candied walnuts, and bleu cheese, and she, a salad with fresh crab. She also ordered a sandwich to go. The waitress brought fresh bread before the rest of the meal was served; it was delicious, although the oil and vinegar with which is was served was lacklustre.
My sister hesitated after tasting the first few bites of her salad, then she said, "This tastes awful. Something is terribly wrong with this salad. I can't eat it." She asked the waitress to take the salad back and ordered a small entre to eat in its place. I was afraid my sister was being fussy--we are of a different temperament--and I began eating my own salad, determined to enjoy it. The pears tasted as if they were tainted, then I noticed that two of the three main ingredients in the salad--walnuts and bleau cheese--were missing entirely. The cranberry dressing tasted spoiled. My salad, too, was inedible.
The waitress had been extremely courteous. I apologized--I told her I had grown up in the Palisades and had often enjoyed eating at the Tivoli--but that our salads were wilted and the dressing tasted spoiled. "I know," she said. "Customers complain all the time about the salads. The guy who makes them pays no attention to his job." She has complained frequently to the chef about the poor quality of the salads but has been consistently ignored. She asked me if I'd mind telling the chef myself, so that the information would come from a customer rather than from her. I agreed, and she went to summon him. She returned embarrassed. "He can't come out," she said. "He's too busy." It was 2:00 p.m. We were the only customers left from the lunch crowd.
Not only was my sister's pricey birthday luncheon ruined, we were treated rudely. We will never return.
- Pros: In Pacific Palisades, outside dining area, menu with alluring options
- Cons: Main dish missing several of the advertised ingredients, poor quality, insulting chef
