The Best Resturant I Have Eaten At !.
Great Resturant To Eat At Best Steak in Town
I'll keep going their and great entertainment , they are original..
My wife went to the Bull Pen to celebrate landing a new client.
I had heard from what I thought were some reliable sources that the food there was really good although the décor was a little dated the food was authentic and hearty, was how it was described to me.
First off I have to say I was surprised and disappointed to arrive and see people standing in front of the entrance smoking away.
Their entrance was dark and kind of narrow and opened up to a bar on our left a vacant hostess station directly in front of us and a much larger room with tables in the center and booths along the wall to the right of where we were.
The bartender greeted us from where he was and said that the hostess would be here soon to seat us. It was not like they were crowded or anything the hostess was just off doing whatever.
Once seated we were surprised with how plain and unimagined the menu was, the odd thing was that the prices were comparable to Houston’s or similar chain. If you want surf and turf options this is not the place.
We ordered what I would consider to be the core competence of any steak house, the prime rib. I think that it was around $25 per plate it included a salad or soup and mashed potatoes or baked potato option.
My wife had the same, however instead of salad she order the house soup and the mashed potato.
When our food arrived we had good appetites and were eager to dig in.
First to arrive was the house salad and soup. This was bland and disappointing the salad had a majority of low quality iceberg lettuce along with shredded carrot pieces and the soup tasted like it came from a can and was not even hot.
Next up was the main course.
Meat was terrible, we had both asked for end cuts and while my wife asked for her meat to be cooked medium well I asked for mine to be well done. Hers was more well done and mine was more medium and get this. Neither one was consistent in how it was cooked throughout. While some of hers and mine was medium to medium well there was no continuity.
The meat itself was atrociously cut and looked unappetizing all together, tough and chewy were the words that came to mind while we were gnawing away.
My wife decided to order the mashed potatoes and they tasted bland and watery like they were made from a box.
I thought that I would order the baked potato and when it arrived with my main dish I was truly disappointed. I mean seriously what kind of establishment fumbles on a baked potato.. seriously!
The potato itself was not even restaurant quality I’ve seen better potatoes at my local grocery store not to mention that it tasted like it was a day old and recently reheated.
I took this as the equivalent of a burger joint messing up the fries, an Asian restaurant that can’t cook rice or a Mexican restaurant that can’t serve decent quality chips and salsa.
My wife and I eat out at least once a week typically and have developed an expectation in food presentation and taste and while I am always interested in supporting smaller local establishments this is one that I in good conscious would never ever recommend again, as they failed to live up to my most tacit expectation.
Our experience was reminiscent of what I expect dining at an elder care cafeteria must be like.
We would have been better off at Bucca’s or Good Stuff or even Fat Burger!
The Bull Pen does have a distinct retro quality and if you grew up in the 70’s and remembered going to restaurants that had cigarette machines in the corner than this place will bring back some nostalgic memories. But this could have been experienced by walking in and going to the bathroom and then promptly leaving!
The bottom line was mediocre services, abysmal food and ridicules prices.
Excellent Steak House!.
I don?t know what restaurant the other reviews are referring to. We go there for a lot of our special occasions. The food is always delicious and the service is extra special. It is a bit pricey, but you have to expect to pay for quality.
I?m not sure why the young guy got such bad service and disliked the food so much, it must have been a very off night for them, because I have never experienced that before. We are also young and good tippers, late twenties. We go with our neighbors in flip-flops and our husbands are big burley guys with beards and long hair. I seriously doubt they discriminated against him. The hamburger buns are home made and are very good, I have never ordered the garlic bread, but I can you tell you it may not look like others but I bet its really good.
This Restaurant is a throw back to the seventies, there is an older crowd 50s+ that seem to come down from the hill to party on the weekends, we enjoy watching them try to hook up, party and dance.
The food is always good. Most of their steaks, which I always order and get a true rare, have fancy sauces with them. If you read the menu you can clearly see how they are prepared, if you don?t like the sauce ask them to not put it on your steak.
The salads and potatoes are prepared tableside and I really like the added service, our water glasses are never empty and the drinks are stiff. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you like a classic steak house. It?s not trendy and it?s not new, but it is a staple in our fancy dinner celebrations.
Another awesome meal here.
We just had another great meal at the B. Pen the other night. Twelve of us had great service, tasty food and we danced to a great band to boot!
I had the Shrimp Scampi and it was delicious. It was preceded by a tasty salad with plenty of beets and warm, fresh sour dough bread with creamy butter. It's quite obvious that the 3 reviews before this one were writen by the same person with a huge resentment. I base my theory on the fact that I have been going here for many years and my folks went there when I was just a twinkle in Dad's eye.
NONE of us have ever had a bad meal, or service at the this classic place Redondo Beach.
Worst Resturaunt I have ever been to!.
TERRIBLE PLACE TO EAT!!!
We come in and the host is rude. Takes 30 minutes to get a table. Then over 1 hour to get our salad. We order Garlic Cheese Breat that is hamburger burns cut in half with butter and garlic spread. That was tossed on the table by our waitress. She came by one time to order our food and get us drinks. The drinks only took about 20 minutes to get. Our waitress was very rude to us. Probably because my girlfriend and I are young (28yrs old) and the average age in the joint is about 55.
It must have been my tattoos and shaved head that entitled us to the worst service i have ever had. To bad for our waitress. My girlfriend and I are heavy tippers.
So when we leave and explain to the hostess, bartender and waitress why we were leaving. They just said $31.50 please. What nerve? To charge us for drinks we didn't even drink because we were so appaled. Cheese bread that was the worst tasting/looking thing i have ever tried to eat and service that was just awful.
I could go on and on and on. I just recommend never eating there. Ever! Trust me. Look at the reviews.
Very Bad. Very bad food and expensive. Service was poor though regulars seem to be treated well. My wife had the chef salad = romaine, Velveeta, old deli ham, onion, pickles. I had the medallions of beef. They were tender but had a gamey taste and were swimming in broth, like a stew. The bar looked a little lively and the atmosphere is a kitchey throwback to 70s steakhouses but you can't excuse the food. Terrible.
DISGUSTING. Don't even attempt to go there. Run Run Run past this place and go to McDonalds...their food is better, trust me. No other restaurant can ruin filet mignon like this place....stir fried with onions in a gravy. Note that here, rare=well-done.
