best fresh sushi, great food, excellent costumer service, favorite sushi place, great beach atmosphere, great casual vibe, nice chefs
Lovin this Venice Sushi. I ate here on Saturday night with my family & liked it. the cool part is the surf movies that play on the wall while ur eating. I think they r all 1970's surf movie's projected on the walls. The sushi was good quality meat and the atmosphere is super stylish. I definitely want to come back and eat here again.
Hama Sushi in Venice. I have been coming to Hama Sushi since 1990 because of the ideal location and upbeat atmosphere. I must say that ever since current owner (Esther) took the reins at Hama, the quality of cuisine is stellar. Everything you order is mouthwatering! I highly recommend the fillet mignon dish - simply put it is the most tender meat you will ever not need to chew...and very reasonably priced. Great fun for birthdays, private events, watching surf movies, or catching a ball game. This place will ROCK YOUR WORLD!!
The Best Sushi in Venice. Hama's specialty rolls are my favorite. The strawberry roll is so good... don't be scared to try it! The Venice roll is perfection. They have happy hour everyday at the bar and the prices are super reasonable. Very fun atmosphere and perfect for dates! Oh, and the desserts are amazing. Tempura cheesecake and banana fritters. Wow!
Happy Hour Rocks!. Came to Hama after work w/ a coworker for some sushi and sake. Happy hour menu did it for us. We nearly ordered everything on there! We had some sushi to go with our dishes, but the popcorn shrimp and rice cakes are awesome. Happy hour must be a popular time since the bar was full. There's something about Hama that makes you feel like you're at home. The servers are really nice, and so are the complete strangers sitting next to you. Food is great, highly recommend!!!
Two thumbs up!!!!!!!. Ok, if you love sushi there is something extremely addictive to Hama !!! From the Green Devil to the Spicy Crunchy Crab...seared tuna sashimi...Black Cod......the fish is super fresh, I've been a costumer for over 3 years and kitchen and sushi bar are very consistent! The owners, management and staff are friendly and provide excellent costumer service! Two thumbs up for Hama!
Great sushi!. I thought this restaurant was pretty great. The pros were the amazingly fresh sushi, the friendly service, the drinks. The only con was, well, how friggin' popular this place is. The bar was SO crowded on the Saturday night.
Venice Original.
After being a regular for over two years, I have to add my kudos to Hama.
The fish is fresh and excellent. If you want a treat order from the selection of specialty rolls. They are more expensive, but will make your dining experience exceptional. I love the Venice Roll, it is fresh and clean; the Strawberry Roll, it is sweet and almost like desert; the Green Dragon for some spice (order the Red Dragon but only if you can handle habanero!!); the Temptation Roll is BEYOND!
The hot entrees vary in deliciousness. Keep in mind that this is a sushi restaurant first. That said, the duck entree is unbelievable. You will not be disappointed. The teriyaki is just ok. Portions would be good for children or someone with a small appetite. I can't say much more because I eat sushi and rolls most of the time.
Keep in mind that the food does not come out in courses like other types of restaurants. Food will come out as it is prepared. This can be irritating to people who are not familiar with how Hama works. It is almost a family style service.
The atmosphere is different depending on your choice of rooms. The inside with the sushi bar is quieter and more romantic. The sushi bar is festive and the chefs are fantastic and love to interact with their customers.
The covered patio is definitely louder since the bar is in this space. I love this room. The surf movies on the wall and the locals make it fun. It can get loud, so request inside if you want a more subdued evening.
Regardless, the seating is close together to give the space its well-known communal feel. I've made friends with people dining next to me! If you want a table separated from others for a date, request that when you make a reservation.
The prices are less than Sushi Roku but more than the hidden away strip mall joints.
Barring the rare snafu, the staff is friendly, knowledgeable and very, very cute!
Decent setting - way overpriced - not worth the cost. Hama needs to get real with its prices. Seriously. Some sushi, a beer, and a glass of wine = $85. That's nuts. I mean it's not like we are dining on the french riveria over looking the Mediterranean. $6.50 for a skimpy sized order of yellow tale? It was just yellow tale - not truffles. Give me a break. Hama, like most restaurants now, needs to WAKE UP and smell the coffee - there is a recession - a massive recession - and an $85 tab for what we got is not going to cut or, nor keep them in business. HAMA - LOWER YOUR PRICES OR FORGET ABOUT IT. YOUR NOT WORTH IT. GET REAL.
Much Nicer Now. I used to go to Hama in the late 90's and it was getting well worn. Now that I'm back in LA, I thought what the hell. I went and found out that there is a new owner from the last time that I went. The place has been cleaned up and the food is still great. One of the best places for sushi and a fun place. The servers made me feel welcome and the chefs are the best in the business.
still the best !.
i used to go to HAMA ALL the time when i lived in venice, then i moved to santa monica and started going to all the sushi places in sm, more for convinience.
years had gone by and my husband and i went there for dinner and WOW !!!
i forgot how great it was ! now we got there weekly, i know, a little excessive, but i mssed it :)
the venice roll and the spicy crunchy crab roll are my favorite
, the nigiri is great too, everything is fresh. the scene, you can choose, loud and casual in the patio or quieter, more romantic in the restaurant.
