overpriced food, overwhelming music, great spot, nice walk, wonderful little place, fresh everyday, very fresh food

Such a lovely little spot in Venice. Rose Ave is full of restaurants now, but this place was a pioneer. It's mostly known for weekend brunch and mild-mannered weekday lunches. Much of the menu is healthy. There's a quick-service deli and unique gift shop, not to mention local art shows.

A lovely little cafe off of Main Street with an ambiance both sweet and full of sunshine. An in-house stocked with sweet pastries, a great breakfast menu for a mid-morning stop, and a fantastic gift store!
A Rose Avenue staple that's been in place for eons and for reason. An awesome gathering place for morning coffee and breakfast. Lunch is also served. Order at the counter and be as healthful or sinful as you like with organic, made fresh daily entree and deli selections and decadent desserts. They have a thoughtful little gift shop dubbed as their market with gifts items and cards.
hair in food, alleged sp in coffee.
I never had much luck with that place. On my infrequent visits they would always run out of ham/cheese croissants in the mornings. One day at a business breakfast I found dark hair and pieces of egg shell in my eggs. (it was replaced or refunded).
The last time I had a coffee to go and when I finished drinking it there was that gooey unidentified substance, looked like a sp**. I called the manager, she did not ask to bring her the cup with that or apologized whatsoever. She just said it was something that I put in there. I was going to send it to the test lab, but I'd rather think that I mistaken it for a sp** than to find out that it was indeed a sp**.
I felt sick and disgusted and haven't been back to that place for 3 years now.
Pretentious. Pretentious and rude. Staff was impatient when ordering and refused to refill my iced tea unless I paid for the refill. The music was overwhelming loud and I was refused when I asked them to turn down the volume. The food was acceptable, but overpriced. No value here.
A gem for breakfast. What a great place! Their food is very fresh and well assorted. An artsy community seems to dine here. I had the eggs scandia and it was delicous! I waited for a table for about 20 minutes but it was well worth the wait. Their service was fantastic. This is a great place for breakfast especially. Great art displayed!
Great Place!. The food at this place is very fresh! if you are looking for a place with good food at reasonable prices you should definitely stop by. My friend brought me here for lunch! I had the choose 3 salads for $9.99. Their Walnut Chicken Salad is to die for! Everything is made fresh everyday. Great spot for breakfast and lunch!
Nice cup of coffee in a great setting.. Coffee is solid, rich and not overly roasted-- much better than in the past. Atomsphere is great and the outdoor patio is lively. Indoor can get noisy, but on off hours it's much more tame. The food is pretty decent, too.
Venice brunch institution adjacent to the transvestite ballerina clown sculpture..
The Scene
On the weekends it's tourists and families, heavy on the toddlers gumming blueberry muffins. Translucent cafe umbrellas on the patio mean sun worshippers don't miss a single ray. Those who are too impatient to wait opt for a table in the more elegant dining room.
The Food
If you look around the broad patio, it seems to divide into two camps: bagel, lox and all the fixings folks, and traditional egg enthusiasts. Eggs Benedict may be the Cadillac of brunch food but eggs San Pietro is a souped-up Caddy with racing stripes. Trade in the hollandaise for a tarragon-redolent bearnaise sauce and toss the Canadian bacon for a mix of chopped prosciutto and smoked ham. Rose Cafe also boasts a long deli case of pasta, potato and chicken salads, as well as pastries and cakes.
great food for a decent price. Very affordable "California" cuisine at the place. Lots of fresh ingredients, and the menu is mixed up all the time. I have no complaints at all about the food. The outdoor seating is also nice. The service is a little stuck up sometimes, and if you're not going to spend big bucks, the servers are less than attentive to you. Also, this place is frequently packed, so it's sometimes a wait to get a table, but usually not too bad.
Can be artsy, upscale, and casual all in one!. This is the place where I take out-of-towners, parents, co-workers, friends. It has something for everyone. If you're looking for some light, California cuisine in an upbeat and unique setting, this is it. I esp. love the gift shop that's stocked with eclectic cards, candles, and art. GREAT local place and excellent brunch! If you go late, however, they tend to run out of good muffins on the weekends.
Great for lunch. A friend took me here while I was visiting from Atlanta, and it was a wonderful little place to have lunch before heading to the beach for a nice walk. Eat ouside on their patio if at all possible.
