The Scene
Raucous "That's Amore" sing-alongs and honor-policy Chianti ensure there's always a boisterous throng of locals at this neighborhood trattoria. The warm, inviting patio is the place to be, while folks inside are packed sardine-style at tables covered with white paper tablecloths (replete with complimentary crayons).
The Food
The family-style dishes could feed a small army, even the most ravenous diner won't go hungry after these heaping portions. Huge ceramic troughs are filled to the brim with pasta; choose from 25 mix-and-match variations on traditional noodles and sauces. The meaty Bolognese is unbelievably rich, especially when paired with thick gnocchi dumplings. An indulgent cognac-spiked cream sauce blankets the fettuccine prosciutto. Other specialties include lush eggplant and Italian sausage lasagna, and provolone and rosemary chicken ravioli slathered in sweet tomato cream sauce. Dessert might be far-flung fantasy after these filling calorie-laden dishes, but true gluttons will enjoy the silky tiramisu.

Sometimes, you're just in the mood for a nice dinner atmosphere. C&O provides that. It's the perfect place for a warm evening dinner by the beach. Usually, the only thing holding me back from trekking to C&O for dinner is the fact that I know it's going to take me a while to find parking and even longer to wait for a table. BUT, in the end, it's usually worth it. Should you choose not to take a walk to the pier while you wait, make sure you grab some garlic rolls while you wait. They're the best. Go ahead and fill up on them - there's no use saving room for your dinner because you're not going to finish it anyway. It's Italian, of course the portions are large. The food is acceptable for the price, which is partially why I'm giving it only four stars. However, it's always nice knowing you're going to have leftovers for lunch the next day, so you're basically getting two meals in one. Lastly, make sure you have a glass of wine ready for when it comes time to sing "That's Amore"!

Hmmm... I think I had the fettuccine last time I was here. I really can't remember because I was busy stuffing my face with the delicious garlic rolls. I think I ate about half a dozen in all! I love this place, and have been here a dozen times, but I never come for the food, the only thing memorable for me and keeps me coming back are the garlic rolls. Yum! oh ya, and love the great location too, right by the beach.

For years, C & O has been the tourist trap that locals can't help but love. Italian singing in the garden patio, glorious toasts of cheap wine, decent food made delicious by the setting. Not having been since before the holidays, I looked forward to an enjoyable night at the ol' C & O. The day ran long, however, so we settled for a take-out order. I phoned in the order and, immediately after hanging up the phone from placing the order, realized I had ordered the wrong entree and phoned back to correct my order. Imagine my surprise when after being placed on hold by a rather abrupt waitress a manager, Flavio I believe his name is, picked up the phone and started yelling - literally - at me for attempting to change my order. I explained that I had just placed the order less than a minute before calling back, to which he yelled "It was THREE minutes ago." Despite my explanation that I had been on hold for 2 minutes, he continued yelling that I should nevertheless take the order and eat it the next day if I did not want it tonight. At that point, I canceled my order, to which he responded with increased rage and fumbling expletives. Whether this man is the owner or manager, I do not know, but I do know that I will never visit this restaurant again as long as he is there, despite more than 10 years of patronage.
