This place is ALWAYS busy and the parking can be a headache but it's worth the trouble. The Godmother is a must try, but I love that I can pick and choose my meats and cheeses depending on my taste buds for the day. Adding a side of macaroni salad may be a good idea.

Live the Eggplant Parmesan and imported. Love the Eggplant Parmesan and imported foods. Always busy at lunch and on weekends. Angelinos become pushy New Yorkers here.

Worst customer service!. Worst customer service and employees I've experienced in a market. When a small container of deli potato salad accidentally fell from a shelf, I was blamed and berated by an employee who proceeded to tell me that I was responible for buying it. The store employees proceeded to give me a hard time as I was checking out even though i was spending almost $20 on 2 sandwiches. They told me they went back to review a video and the container dropped as I was pulling out the one next to it... come on, it was a $1.75 container of potato salad, not a $100 bottle of wine. It was embarrassing and I will never go back again. The Godmother sandwich was just so-so and not worth the experience.

Italian staples and better-call-ahead sandwiches!. Bay Cities Italian Deli & Bakery has been a Santa Monica establishment since it first opened its doors in 1925. Although it sells everything from kitchen supplies to Asian ingredients, Bay Cities is known for its variety of Italian staples (both imported and domestic). It offers over two dozen kinds of DeCecco pasta and enough pannetone to build a house. It also features an impressive selection of international cheeses and wines.

And, did we mention its incredible array of freshly made sandwiches, salads, and other prepared deli favorites? We love the Godmother Sandwich and Marinated Artichokes. Order your food for home or for immediate consumption on the patio. The line at the deli counter can be up to 15 minutes long but the food is well worth the wait. You can also place your order online and pick it up at the side counter.

FANTASTIC SANDWICHES!. The sandwiches here are to die for!!! Yum!!!! Their bread reminds me of the bread up in san francisco (although they still rate #1). Whenever I come into town this is what I crave. If you can... Order online... If not.. Expect a line

Awesome Deli. All about the Godmother! They now have them in a basket on the counter so you don't have to wait. That and the homemade bread make it worth the trip!

One of the Best Around. Great sub sandwiches with nice selection of Italian meats and cheeses. The "Godmother" sandwich is simply awesome. Give it a try and if you don't like it I'll refund your money. But please, save me the rest.

Bad Service - - Long Wait - SoSo Sandwich. I ordered the Godmother with the works, but forgot to ask to hold the mayo and mustard. Half-way through making the sandwich, I informed the sandwich maker that I had forgotten to ask to hold the mayo and mustard. He reluctantly made me another sandwich. Here's the kicker. Instead of the peppers they usually include with the "works", this A-hole substituted pickled veggies (Yuck!). For this I waited 30 minutes? OK, my mistake for not requesting to hold the mayo and mustard, but to purposely screw up the sandwich is just plain rude.

great sandwich!!. i went here a couple of weeks ago and just got to writing a review....i went here just to see how great this deli is. it ends up being a little italian grocery store very cute. and the deli section is where you can get your sandwiches. my mother is a pastrami fanatic so i mainly came for her. she loved it her favorite was the fresh bread and the hot pepper salad in the sandwich that made it unique. i got the potroast sandwich it was hot and juicy and they give you alot. the price is good too. for $8 you will not be hungry for the rest of the day! i would love to try everything on the menu

Quick Tip!. I come here almost every Sunday, and I don't live that close! Amazing sandwiches! I used to try to come in before 11am so the line would be a little shorter but have since found a little secret. Call your order in ahead of time and it should be ready in about 15 mins (although they say it can take up to 45 mins). You can just walk in past the line and grab your sandy!
