The other "Baja" Mexican fast-food chain subs heart-healthy for fatty and fried..
The Scene
They don't have the panache of Baja Fresh's striking black and white decor, but the interiors of these restaurants are clean and bright, with Mexican-themed murals plastering the walls and mariachi music playing in the background.
The Food
Burritos are made Subway-style: Just choose the toppings and watch the cooks wrap it all up. The restaurants proudly display a "No Lard, No MSG, No Junk" sign. Sorry, only black beans served here. The resulting health-Mex foods are satisfying, though not exactly the stuff of cravings. Burritos are packed with jack cheese, salsa, guacamole and your choice of grilled chicken, steak, fish or carnitas. Tacos, topped with chopped onion and cilantro, benefit from a splash of one of the four salsas offered at the salsa bar. A few more-complex items are also offered: an eggless chile relleno, roasted and stuffed with jack cheese; and a chicken tamale, smothered with a dark, cinnamon-laced mole.

Surprisingly good considering location.
Shares a food mall on the 3rd Street Promenade: I was not expecting much. But they let you customize your burrito which is nice, and it tasted great. Nice to know there's one option for cheap eats among the overpriced and not-so-good tourist traps in the area.
