The encyclopedic menu includes traditional deli fare like chopped liver and pastrami sandwiches, and eclectic picks such as duck enchiladas and goat cheese-blanketed shepherd's pie. I've NEVER complained formally or written a review , FYI. We went to the deli, where it took minutes before we were even acknowledged and told that they didnt take credit cards (fine...). So we ordered, and got out cash to pay and were shuffled around from person to person before we were just sat down at a dirty table. we were given a basket full of plastic silverware to eat our food. My item was poorly put togehter and my "side salad" was a heap of leaves that were falling off my plate. My boyfreind's meal was a small sandwich on toast with a "pickle" that was a cucumber that was semi-pickled. He took a bite and felt nausiated after realizing it was a warm cucumber. Then we were confronted by four ladies behind the cash register telling us we hadn't paid, which was news to us, considering we had completely forgotten that they hadn't taken our money because we were so focused on how terrible our experience had been thus far, and we were given no receipt and no "order number". I dont think ive ever ordered from a counter and been asked to pay as I'm walking out with no receipt or anything! I proceeded to say "wow, i dindt know we hadnt paid" and I became upset after i mentioned that this was terrible service. I was told (HONESTLY....) "Our service isnt bad!!!! You need to pay!!!!! GOD IS WATCHING DOWN ON YOU" and "HE KNOWWWWS!!!!"....and as i held out $20 to pay for my meal, i was told "DONT PAY, GOD IS WATCHING YOU". What the heck!!!!!????(at this time, my BF was upset and already set down $15 for his half of the ticket and left the restaurant). After that....we didnt go shopping and went straight home becuase we were THAT bummed out. I'm still affected.... DO NOT go to this restaurant. I dont even know how it's still in business.

I've unfortunately eaten here for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as had many business meetings catered by the Broadway Deli. It is all aweful. I don't understand how it is still in business. Overpriced, dry sandwiches, cold breakfasts, bland dinners, slow service, bad atmosphere. I would recommend anything else in downtown Santa Monica over the Broadway Deli.
