great sales, helpful staff, love place, best art
Don't bother trying to spell the name--just get inside this sprawling space for the absolute best selection of books on the visual arts.. Spread across some 8,000 square feet, this Third Street Promenade mainstay might be oddly located near Barnes and Noble, but it's hardly just another storybook superstore. Founded by Reginald Hennessey in 1963, Hennessey + Ingalls is the largest art and architecture bookstore in the western United States, and quite possibly the country's biggest visual arts book dealer. Originally serving as an outlet for rare and out-of-print architecture books, the family-owned and managed business (which moved to its Wilshire location in 2003) offers endless titles in art and art history, architecture, photography, interior design, graphic design and landscaping.
The best art bookstore anywhere. I love, love, love this place. For anyone visual, they have the best selection of books and magazines on all art subjects including architecture, photography, design, landscape design...stuff you can't see anywhere else. A must browse!
