What People Are Saying About Patrick's Roadhouse

In Short – The nautical-meets-Victorian interior has been a quirky choice for a quarter of a century. Solo diners grab a seat at the front counter or on the long, parking-lot adjacent patio. Arnold Schwarzenegger photos abound; he's a fan, as are other industry-ites who flock to the "Barney's Beanery of the beach." The food is massive and hearty, like the Farmer's Breakfast, an explosion of an omelette stuffed with every possible ingredient, including hash browns.
a unique and funky canyon restaurant

Silvio is a great host and sets the warm and inviting tone. The food is good, the coffee is hot, and it's fun to hang out there, especially at breakfast time. If you want to make a change from the menu it's no problem. Pleasant service. You run into canyon characters and overhear interesting conversation. And he's got free wireless so you can do some work, too, or check your email. Silvio is German-Portuguese and his wife is Brazilian which adds a bit of flavor. Altogether, highly recommended.
- Pros: good food, caring service, informal neighborhood atmosphere
Funky Food - In a Bad Way
by deniska10 at Citysearch
Patrick's Roadhouse holds some kind of sporadic appeal for my husband. We tried it a few years ago, but when he wanted to try it again, all I could remember was that the the dining area is narrow--which meant the food was not memorable. We went this morning and it is now "off the list." The coffee was okay, but the food was all off -- my husband's pancake was rubbery, his eggs, English muffin, and potatoes were cold. He had asked for peanut butter, and when the food arrived the waitress said "they're looking for the peanut butter." Never eat something that hasn't been used in so long the cook doesn't know where it is! My veggie omelet was a weirdly managed mix of cold broccoli, steaming hot spinach and lukewarm eggs, my potatoes were cold, and it all tasted like funky, old oil. There was no orange juice. The tomato juice I ordered was forgotten (just one lonely waitress, so I forgave that and was glad not to have to consume anything else there) and the pretty-looking partial slice of cantaloupe was tasteless. If it isn't worth eating, don't put it on the plate for decoration, please. I couldn't wait to get home to brush & get rid of the lingering bad taste.
Patrick's did seem "family friendly," but if I had children, I would not want them to eat the food. We got there early, so parking was okay. It was nice to look out and see the ocean at breakfast, but I'd rather see it from a better restaurant.
- Pros: Decent coffee
- Cons: Bad food
Here's to the Governator!

I have been coming to Patrick's Roadhouse for 6 years and it's my 2nd home. The employees are my 2nd family and the breakfast is the best in southern California. Especially the Governator special. The coffee is the richest I've ever had, food is fast, service is friendly and Silvio, the owner, makes sure everything comes out perfect!
