Editorial Review for Allen Edwards Salon & Spa Santa Monica – by Phuong-Cac Nguyen

The Scene
The look (muted greens and browns) and feel of this two-story salon and spa is distinctly earthy. Along with a few treatment rooms on the first floor, there is an additional room upstairs where nail services are performed. Signs posted urge patrons to mind the level of their voices, which everyone seems to heed.

The Services
Making use of Allen Edwards' reputation on the salon circuit, the spa offers the usual facials and body treatments. But their specialty services (permanent makeup, electrolysis, sea-enzyme body firming masks, epicurean enzyme facial treatments) are refreshing takes on textbook services. For those who enjoy a massage, relaxation can be achieved through the healing power of warm stones. Complete the experience with a haircut, weave, highlight or simple scalp treatment in the salon.

I walked in 20 minutes before my facial appointment and was greeted by a confused looking employee. I had to explain that I had an appointment before I received a friendly attitude. The facial itself was mediocre. Her hands were very light, not the firm experienced hands I tend to enjoy. She did attempt to explain to me why I was breaking out and why my skin was very dry. She also offered to give me some samples of a couple products she used during the facial. I don't know if it was because I made the appt during spa week (where each facial is only $50), but I did not even receive a facial massage - just a decollete massage. I've never gotten a facial where a massage on the face is not performed. However, what turned me off the most was that her goodbye greeting was "good luck" as though she assumed I only got the facial because it was cheap and that I'd never return. No "see you soon" or "I hope you enjoyed it" or "Come see us again". My advice - go to another spa where you'll get a more enjoyable experience at the same price.

Pros: parking in rear

Cons: not worth the money

Made an appt, waited over an hour and 45 minutes and ended up walking out because my hair dresser (who spoke to me only once) did not come back. He saw me standing there, waiting, and waiting, and still did not come back to assure me he would be helping me soon. I left, with no service, and a bad taste in my mouth
