Best Japanese Restaurant Ever, Breaks My Heart!!!. This is the place that I have gone just about every week for almost 4 years, since moving to the city. They know me and the particulars our orders (extra little crunchy tempura flakes in my miso soup) and always get it right. If they make a mistake with your order, they'll replace it and give you stuff to make up for it. You never leave this place dissatisfied. If you haven't gone as of the last couple weeks, you don't know yet that TAKANAWA HAS CLOSED!!! My heart is broken and I crave their food on a daily basis now. The lease on the building was simply too expensive for them to renew, so the entire staff has relocated to Kaizuka Restaurant in Culver City. I haven't been yet, but hopefully it won't be 100% different. Jeff told me they'd try to have a lot of the same menu items available. Please go and see them if you loved Takanawa, Kaizuka is located at Culver and Duquesne, near Trader Joe's. I miss it so much, and for all you regulars like me, I sympathize because I'm sure you do too!!

LA's Hidden Sushi Gem!. The freshiest sushi I've ever had. I've tried many of LA's top sushi places and by far, Taka's is the best. And the great thing is it doesn't cost an entire pay check to dine. If you haven't tired it - you don't know what you are missing. Great flavors, LOTS of choices and if you don't see it on the menu, just ask, they are great about creating what YOU like. Their menu selections are very traditionally with great flavor as well. So if you don't prefer the sushi - go with the menu and you'll be just as happy!! Hey and there is even outside dinning. Friendly atmosphere and clean place!

Best sushi around!. Takanawa does have the best sushi around. There are plenty of sushi bars with glitz and glamour. But Takanawa has the best sushi with the widest variety of rolls. I occasionally try other places, and reaffirm my belief that Takanawa is best.

Hidden gem with great sushi. Previous to Takanawa, I was accustomed to one standard sushi flavor. Now I know that there is a fresher, more flavorful sushi to be had. Takanawa is a great restaurant in a unsuspecting locale. It's small, but comfortable. The service is good, they won't rush you out, and you won't go broke. I go twice a month every month, and will continue to do so. The greatest tribute to Takanawa is how many repeat customers they have. The shrimp salad roll is my favorite.

Great neighborhood sushi joint. Service is superb, sushi is fresh, AND it's affordable. What more can a sushi lover want?

Their Monk fisk liver was really really good, as well as their rolls and nigiri sushi (try the ika). The restaurant has a cozy neighborhood feel to it (often see regulars). The size of the rolls are not grotesquely large, but petite and yumm-o and pops right into your mouth! Their non sushi dinners like the teriyaki and tempura combo was really good too.

Overall, my party enjoyed every bite! Try it for yourself!

LA's Hidden Sushi Secret. Truly LA's best kept secret! Takanawa, owner and Sushi chef, personally shops everyday for the freshiest fish. His prices are reasonable and the fish far superior to some of the better known sushi places in town. Taka is glad to make special orders not on the menu. The staff is very friendly with lots of repeat customers, myself being one of them for more then 5 years.
