Since opening its first diner in the 1940s, this restaurant has developed into one of the most popular West Coast franchises, claiming industry innovations such as the drive-through window, partial-service dining rooms and their iconic Six Dollar Burgers--a line of oversized, sit-down restaurant-style hamburgers with Angus patties. Other hearty options abound, including steak-and-egg breakfast burritos, crispy chicken sandwiches and chili cheese fries to supplement standbys like onion rings and shoestring potatoes.

Not their best. Pushed back off Santa Monica Blvd, this particular Carl's has a dimly lit parking lot and their staff was a bit rude. It doesn't get very crowded the few times I've been here; but if you have to have Carl's, there are other ones not too far away.
