Editorial Review for Typhoon – by Martha Burr
The Scene
A lovely, open arc of a room is gussied up with reddish wood and orchids. Glass walls overlook little planes sallying back and forth on the intimate airstrip just below. Couples on dates swoon as planes take off and land against the setting sun, while largers groups share the family-style portions.
The Food
An eclectic, culinary tour of the Pacific Rim delivers tasty Asian tapas and savory entrees but what jumps out of the menu right away are the insects. Minimalist scorpion shrimp toast is beautiful yet bland; crunchy Taiwanese fried crickets are kicked up with garlic, basil and chiles. Timid eaters can make a meal of less adventurous appetizers like rich Malaysian lamb satay, citrusy, sea bass seviche and spicy, tropical Burma wings. For heartier fare, the Mongolian lamb is deeply satisfying. The Thai chicken curry is a tender swoon of coconut, bathed in a silky, mild sauce.

We heard some "good" things about this place and wanted to check it out ourselves. Well, the wait was quick and that was the ONLY good part. The service was HORRIBLE, the waiter put his entire sleeve into my wife’s dinner while reaching across the table to pour water and almost knocked her in the head while doing so. The food was just okay, for what’s on the menu your better off going to a Thai restaurant then wasting your money at this place. They NEVER asked us if we wanted another drink and they cleaned our plate before we were even finished. It took me so long to finish my Thai chicken because all they gave me were chopsticks to eat with. How does one eat an entire half of a chicken still on the bone with chopsticks? We left a bad tip to reflect on our experience and ended up going to NOMA on Wilshire for better food and service. We will never go back and I HIGHLY don't recommend this place.

After many visits with many friends, this place managed to ruin my wife's 40th birthday party with warm beer, bad service and no cake and candles after many hints to the server... we tried to over look many of the short comings on my many visits because my friends love to watch the planes landing and taking off...it couldn't have been from us not leaving a good tip we always left 40 per cent... so I tell my friends who like to watch planes take off and landing to go to In and Out Burger near LAX. The food is just so so.
