Editorial Review for Lula Cocina Mexicana – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
Vibrant folk art and bold contemporary paintings decorate the back patio, bar area and spacious dining room. This colorful spot serves many basics like burritos and tacos, but it further allures with more adventurous fare. Antojitos platters feature regional appetizers, both familiar and exotic. Guacamole, jalapenos and quesadillas appease picky palates, but there's also fried cheese-filled orange squash blossoms and corn-potato fritters. Churros--fried batter coated in cinnamon sugar--are dessert.

A few friends and I were looking for a fun night out and Lulu's delivered: the music, noise, and enormous drink menu fulfilled our wishes. We had the cheese stuffed jalepenos as an appetizer, then I had the mole tamales and my friends had the goat cheese quesadilla, carne asada, and carne asada burrito. The mole tamales were to awesome: not "burn your tongue off spicy" but they did pack some flavor - much more interesting than a usual tamale. I also really liked the black beans; this sounds bizzare, but they had almost a creamy texture. However, there was a huge downful: the service was horrible: not responsive, brought us the wrong drinks, somewhat testy. If you're with a huge group and that doesn't matter too much, it's not a problem: otherwise don't expect this to be a quick jaunt to a mexican restaurant.
Pros: Interesting food, great atmosphere
Cons: Service

Ok, so this is my addiction..truly unlike any other!! I started coming here about 4 years ago..and cannot seem to stop! The atmosphere is hip, fun, lively..yet very low key. I think the margaritas are the gorgeous....and each week they have special creations ..gingerita, sangri..etc. And I have just discovered that they are doing monthly tequila tastings..for only about $30 ...with much liquor and tapas style snacks..Patron this month. The food is tasty...and very diverse..with the usual; homemade tamales, enchiladas, baja tacos (my fav)..but with a little kick to the tradition. Oh and the desserts..you had better save room for that espresso brownie! I recommend it for girls night, fun date or even a big group (but make a reservation for that) The staff is fun, friendly and always have my drink and guacamole ready for me when they see me!! Lula is the CHEERS of main st!! Thanks guys..for feeding my LULA addiction!
Pros: fun, great food and drinks and unique monthly events
Cons: highly addictive!!
