I am not impressed with this Dental Group. It seems that there are different dentists each time I go, and that maybe I'm being practiced on by dental students. As for my children, It was awful and the dentist's bed-side-manner, in reguards to how one acts and speaks around a nervous child, was terrible. My 5 year old was wincing and the dentist told her sternly If you do not comply, I will have to ask you to find another dentist (comply? - how many 5 year olds know what that means?). We found another Dentist.

I just skipped my last appointment because something just doesn't feel right about this place...Since moving to LA 5 years ago I have had two wierd experiences with dentists - not at all the service I am used to coming from my amazing family dentist in the midwest...at Santa Monica Dental Group people are just grumpy - the last dr. to work on me (you never now who it will be) was really nervous shaking and seemed kind of scared to do the work but kept telling ME that MY dental anxiety was making it really difficult to work on me. But the thing was - I wasn't anxious! And I kept telling him, no no I'm fine and making jokes and trying to put HIM at ease and he wouldn't believe me and kept giving me shots of novacaine to handle the pain that I kept telling him I wasn't experiencing. When I was finished he told me next time you come back you'll need the gas because you are to tense to work on... and I felt very wierd about it...very powerless. Like he wouldn't let me speak up on behalf of my own body. It was actually a very scary place to be in - I felt helpless.I have had a really wierd gut feeling about it for a week now... I usually don't write to things like this but I am checking out other reviews so maybe I can find someone kind who really loves what they do and understands that healthcare is about taking really good care of your patients - not ignoring and over medicating them.

I had an awful experience with Dr. Famili. When I went in for my first exam, he said 4 teeth needed to be fixed. At my second appointment two weeks later, for some reason it was now 6 teeth. I suspect some of the work he did was unnecessary. Furthermore, he was incredibly rude. When he first began, I was nervous. He responded by pushing back his chair, telling me to come back another day after taking some Valium and Xanax. I was shocked! I should have left right then, but for some inexplicable reason, I didn't. So, he started working. But midway through, he would abruptly get up leave, without telling me why, and disappear for 1/2 hour at a time (happened more than once). I figured out that he was working on other patients. It was bizarre. In all, in order to get three cavities filled, I was in his office for 3 hours and fifteen minutes! One last example. Midway through the exam, he turned away for a minute, and I guess I moved my head slightly. When he looked back at my mouth, he said goddamit, you just ruined everything i just did. Seriously, wtf? He is a totally unprofessional, nasty person. Stay away!!!!
