What People Are Saying About Kushi Shabu Restaurant

In Short – Atop the third floor of the Weller Court Japanese mall, an intimate wood-paneled room emits a noir-ish '70s Tokyo vibe. The cozy bar, wooden booths and tables are host to locals and downtown artists who buy their own shabu shabu creations or share elegant kushi katsu (deep-fried meat, seafood or veggies on skewers.) Appetizers include broiled eggplant, octopus and sardines. Popular dinners are the Kushi Shabu deluxe combo, the 12-skewer combo, Kobe-style beef, and all-you-can-eat shabu-shabu.
Editor's Tips
- Know Before You Go:
- Over 30 kinds of kushi katsu include fish cake, wild potato, shrimp, asparagus, beef and pumpkin.
- Look Good:
- Get a bottle of free champagne with dinner on your birthday.
- The Extras:
- Several enclosed wooden booths make great private dining for four to six people (especially good with kids), and the cushioned tatami room behind a sliding screen holds 20.

The AYCE option is a great deal
by ronnielee
Do not come here in sweltering heat or any summer months. Unless slaving away in a private enclosed space over a hot boiling stove is your fetish. But for cold rainy winter days, shabu shabu is the perfect way to warm you up.
Our friend works here on the weekends and he is super helpful, filling us up with champagne and beer and explaining how to properly eat shabu shabu.
Our group opted for the AYCE option (pork and beef). Thinly sliced pieces of meat boiled for a couple seconds and dipped into this awesome nut sauce and eat it with rice. O M G. I love nut sauce! Nut sauce Nut sauce nut sauce! I'm addicted to the sauce :D
After 10 plates of meat, rice, noodles, and a couple plates of veggies, we were treated to a lovely dessert of jello cubes, red bean, and fruit not to mention a medley of tiny ice cream scoops (red bean, lychee, green tea, and mango).
Come and prepare to get warm and full.
- Pros: Great service. Very good dipping sauces. Private rooms.
- Cons: Might be bland if compared to chinese hot pot.
decent shabu shabu
by possebendy
this shabu shabu house is great if you're extremely hungry.
ALL YOU CAN EAT SHABU SHABU FOR $25 including miso soup and dessert.
Tuesday's and Wednesday's if you get in before 7PM they'll take 20% off the bill.
two other specials which i've heard of but haven't done yet:
$15 for Unlimited drinking (beer, sake, & wine) for 2 hours.
Birthday parties: 1 bottle of free champagne for every 5 guests
I'm not sure if its the meat, or the ponzu sauce but there's something different about this shabu shabu that just doesn't compare to the Shabu Shabu House Restaurant. Here you share your hotpot with your table i guess depending on how many is in the party. The first time i went there with my friends we ordered so many plates of beef that we ran out of the red chili pepper. Shabu Shabu here is pretty decent but i'd still prefer the Shabu Shabu House Restaurant.
- Pros: ALL YOU CAN EAT SHABU SHABU
Great for parties and when you're EXTREMELY hungry
by pimpsta213
I've been here countless time for a simple dinner to birthday parties. Reservation is highly suggested if party is greater than 4. And if your party is big enough, they will put you into a Japanese dinning room where you'll have to take off your shoes to enter. Each and every time, we would all have the all-u-can-eat shabu shabu with your choice of beef, chicken, and pork. The staffs are always busy taking care of the customers but never make you feel unwelcome. The quality of the meat they serve can be inconsistent at time, but taste good after they are cooked and dipped into their sesame seed sauce. Remember to ask for desert which includes Japanese rice cake with fruit or various ice-cream (greet tea, lychee, strawberry, and mango). Since everyone is sitting next to the hot-pot, it is best to go during the cold weather. However, they would crank up the A/C during summer time. Parking is located in the basement, entrance is on 2nd st. They do validate, but only for 1 1/2 hours. My average dinning time is between 2 and 3 hours. What's yours?
- Pros: Endless meat, veggies, and ice-cream for desert
- Cons: Seating can be tight sometime and the tables are too small to place all the food
Great Shabu Shabu
by slabacz
This restaurant has great shabu shabu for a party of 4 or more, as they seat you family style at tables instead of a bar, allowing you to chat with everyone at your party.
- Pros: Reasonable, tasty, Good for small groups
