In Short – For more than a century, this landmark eatery has been serving Angelenos the original French dip sandwich. Situated between Dodger Stadium and Union Station, this cavernous spot is decorated with baseball and train motifs, long tables for communal dining and sawdust on the floor. There's standard deli fare--soups, sandwiches, salads, plus a slew of pies--but everyone knows that everyone comes here for the famed sandwich. Meat (beef, pork, lamb, ham or turkey) is dunked in au jus and layered in a perfect French roll. Sides are classics as well--think crispy slaw and creamy…
Philippe's = Good Grub!

First bite "Amazing." Second bite "Pure Joy." Third bite "Will You Marry me?" To eat Phillippe's is to love Phillippe's. The recipe is simple... Get some amazingly tender roast beef. Check. Slam it down onto a crispy french roll. Check. Dunk that french roll into some "Dip" - the greatest thing known to man. Check Mate.... And let the children sing. Slight exaggeration? Maybe..... but not much. When you've tried it, you'll understand. Come into Philippe's any time of day and you'll always be greeted with the same... 10 lines 10 people deep, rows upon rows of family style tables, saw dust on the floor, and most importantly, sweet old ladies in light brown dresses dipping their hearts away. But equally important, load up your tray with some old fashioned macaroni salad, one giant pickle, a slice of apple pie, and an old school tiny glass of lemonade, and you're on your way. Exploring for a table is almost half the fun, walking through the labyrinth of hallways and rooms, strolling up stairs where you swear the layout must have been from a 1912 elementary school. Wherever you choose to sit, settle down with the worlds greatest french dip and squeeze on just a little of there super-spicy horseradish mustard (you've been warned, don't come after us when your brain wants to exit your body through your nose). It's no wonder the place has been packed for right around a century, put simple, the place has Good Grub. See more at www.thegoodgrub.weebly. com

Amazing French Dips

If you're looking for an amazing, cheap French Dip, Philippe's is the place. The originator of the French Dip (yes, you heard me right), Philippe's is perfect right before a Dodger game! But get there early, as the lines can get REALLY long before Dodger Games!
For dessert, get the Banana Cream Pie. It's AWESOME!
- Pros: Great Food, cheap prices
- Cons: Long lines before a Dodger game
Good place for French-Dip Sandwiches
by jrizal at Citysearch
I believe this is the only place that serves french-dip sandwiches. Good lamb sandwich but it does not taste lamby. Cole slaw is good, too.
The cons: the service is inconsistent--sometimes good and sometimes bad. And the brownies--yech! Totally skip it!
- Pros: Good lamb sandwich and parking
- Cons: Service and brownies
