Eating at Hama Sushi, I must admit, is not for everyone. Unlike other sushi restaurants in Little Tokyo, this place stays away from the fancy rolls with extravagant names such as spider, volcano, what-the-f***k, etc. Also, it stays away from fancy interior designs with scantily-dressed Asian watiresses. And instead of offering a million things to go along with your sushi (seriously, what real sushi place in Japan would offer chicken teriyaki with their sushi), Hama Sushi offers a small, but efficient menu with fresh raw fish at a price that is certainly a bargain. A dinner for two with a couple of beers will set you back $70-80, a rare deal in overpriced Little Tokyo. I would definitely recommend the red snapper with salt and the albacore toro. Also tasty is the yellowtail collar. Close your eyes and reopen them and you will swear you are in one of the back alley restaurants of Tsukiji. In a nutshell, if you enjoy real sushi and not just rolls, then this is the place for you.

Hama has the best and the freshest sushi in LA. A small, sushi bar, don't expect to order anything but sushi at a very reasonable price in a very relaxed atmosphere.

I travel the country for business and am weekly sushi eater. I strongly recommend Hama sushi for anyone who appreciates great raw fish. They have amazingly creative rolls (like the Strawberry Roll in Ponzu sauce), and pair customized oils and homeade sauces with fish in a completely unique way. They are masters at making each bite worth savoring.....and everything is FRESH. The bamboo cold sake is a must have accompaniment for your meal. I even overheard the head sushi chef talking about a book he's working on showcasing all of his unique sushi roll creations!!
