What People Are Saying About Flossie's Southern Cuisine

In Short – Wedged between a Laundromat and a liquor mart, this tiny eatery has autographed head shots on the walls, green vinyl-covered tables and a cafeteria-like counter where the staff packs up orders in Styrofoam containers. Not for waistline-watchers, the classic Deep South menu includes fried chicken, catfish, meatloaf, chicken pot pie and plenty of hot sauce. Biscuits, macaroni and cheese, candied yams and okra come as sides. Popular desserts are sweet potato pie, fruit cobbler and bread pudding.
Editor's Tips
- The Extras:
- Restaurant namesake Flossie Vence, originally from Cleveland, Miss., also founded Aunt Kizzy's Back Porch.
- Know Before You Go:
- Cash is the only accepted form of payment, so make sure you come with enough. Also, some dishes, like the beef short ribs, aren't served everyday. Call ahead if you're looking for something specific.

Childhood Favorite
by Miss Amsamfa
The first time I had food from Flossie's was in late 1989. I was little over a year old.
Flossie's was one of my favorite places to eat as a child. The friendly atmosphere and the excellent, mouth-watering food always brought the family together. I always ordered the same meal - fried chicken, mac & cheese, and corn bread. The family would split a cobbler between us.
Yum, yum, yum! :-D

Sandra is always welcoming to me and my friends. I have been a loyal customer for years even. I stop by every time i am in town even when i lived in Germany. The oxtails and desserts are my favorite. I would highly recommend.
- Pros: Great taste, reasonable portions
- Cons: small dining area
A True Delight

Flossie's is a hidden find in every sense of the word - it's definitely hidden, a simple, unassuming storefront sitting in a generic strip mall - and it's definitely a find.
I live far away, but have made the drive many a time to get some of their tasty food. From the various sides and desserts to the perfectly cooked chicken, I have never had a bad meal there and doubt I ever will.
This is true soul cooking at its best. I've found several places in the area that come close to Flossie's, but none have ever been able to top it, and for that reason, I still make the drive.
- Pros: Definitely the food
- Cons: Unusual hours, seating not always available
