Mr. Strickland is a slum lord.. I rented from Labri management for 21 years. We generally had good management until Flor and Mike were our managers. It all started when I asked for a new stove and oven numerous occasions. I had also asked them to fix my closet because it had a bad mold issue, I also gave them a list of things to repair, mind you I've lived in the same apartment for 21 years. Never changed the carpet nor painted the living room ever. Asked numerous times for them to fix a leak that was in my kitchen that leak so bad I would have to keep a bucket underneath it. Raw sewage. I had spoke to other tenant as well this was an on going problem throughout the complex. So I decided to call Mr. Strickland to let him know that his management team would also walk around intoxicated in public. Which didn't bother him because nothing I brought to his attention was valid right. At that point the manager at my complex ask me about my visitors who enter my place and asked me if they live with me. I told her no. I didn't realize that we had to let them know who visits. No security doors either. Mind you this whole time either neighbors have at least 10 family members in a 2 bedroom next to me but never complained to management. At that point I was wondering why she asked me those questions. That 's when I recieved a notice saying that I had too many poeple living ing my place. I thought 3 people is too many when neighbor across the way has ten and below me had ten as well. At that point I realized that she was legally trying to remove me. Which was fine but when the managers husband directly says to my face its all about the money. It effects their bonus if they repair things in our apartment. But this is the kind of management that Labri hires with criminal records so they enter apartments without consent. The funniest thing is that when we left they had to repair all these items anyway. I heard that for the 1st year it was vacant and the last 2 tenants vacated within six months. Karma. They should of kept us there and fixed the damn place and listen to the complaints I had and just addressed them. Wise business move Mr. Strickland. Shortly after we left I heard management was fired.
Property Stollen Whittier Villas. I rented an apartment at Whittier villas. We were in the middle of moving on 1/10/12 & the manager waited until we left to take a load to our new place and entered my apartment without my permission and took my property then changed the locks and left the premises. The lock out was not until 1/22/2012. She had no right to be in my apartment or take my things. On top of that she lied and told us that the construction crew had taken my things. It has taken a week to locate them and the whole crew says that this is not true. They saw her take my things and one of my dollies were on her porch hidden behind the wall. I have called and complained. This is theft straight up. i want my things back and it looks like I am going to have to sue to make that happen. Maybe management will stand behind their claims and do something about this? Wish me luck
These people dont appreciate crap!. I know I am a sucker because me and my mom have lived here for almost 10 years. When my mom lived here, they kinda treated her ok she finished her lease and asked for her deposit. One of the sups, a man named Jim, is a complete fake christian. He pretended to be so nice and concerned to my mom, yet became a jerk when she tried to get her money back. I moved in and took over the apartment. Things are crappy as hell now, yet the rent is cheap. Once, for a whole week, the showers didnt work. I have asked for the longest time to have my carpet changed, but no response. We always have trouble with the plumbing here. If you are reading this. stay away from these peoples apartments!!! They are slumlords!
NOT RECOMMENDED. Total ripped off when you moved out and bad experienced with the apartment . The manager was nice but nothing gets fixed though. I don't think I would recommend any of my friends or families to rent from them.
Poor Management, Unfair, Biased.
DO NOT RENT any units from this group.
I'm hoping someone who is considering moving in uses these reviews and make the wise decision of NOT moving into one of Labri's building.
I was suckered in by the low rent rate. it beat other apartments in the area by $30-$50.
When i first moved into a 1 bedroom unit, everything was waaaay out of date. None of the outlets in the apartment were grounded. not even in the bathroom. I noted this on the checklist from when i first moved in. i asked the manager "when are you guys gonna change it?" and never got a clear answer. After lots of back n forth, i gave in and said that i'd do it myself. luckily i'm a certified electrician and took care of it. But i know i shouldnt've done it, but i really needed those outlets.
come winter time, 3 of the 4 heaters in the apartment dont work. i reported it. nothing got done. i had to get portable heaters. i should've reported it.
And NOW, i've been here 2 years, and like a sucker for low rent, i signed another year.
This entire time i've parked my car into my parking spot in reverse. which doesn't hurt anyone at all
Yesterday, there was some biker bitch was blocking my parking so i asked her to move so that i could park. i got lots of dirty looks, but i'm a gentleman before anything, so i didn't say anything.
Turns out that biker bitch is friends with one of the tenants that's really close to the manager.
The next day i get a call that i have to park my car in the forward position.
Mind you, 2 years i've parked in reverse, and all of a sudden, i have to change it.
after a big hooplah with the manager, they sent out a memorandum, and now everyone has to park in the forward position, because (they claim) "we dont want anyone to back up into the stone wall", :
So now instead of endangering the "stone wall" i'm endangering the tenants that live in front of my parking spot. so if someone reverses into their living room, its OK, because management sent out a memorandum to everyone.
My next lease will definitely be semewhere else.
So, i emphasize all across the board:
DO NOT RENT any units from this group.
DO NOT RENT FROM L'ABRI MANAGEMENT. The reasont why I am writing this is to inform anyone who is cincidering labri's management apartments...They are some cheater and they will cheat you out of all of your money..for example: Me and my boyfriends decided to rent from them because we had just had a baby girl in october of 2009 and we needed a place to stay so we moved in nov of 2009...it is now nov.2010 and our lease is up dec.1..we did not recieve any notice that we had to put our 30 day notice in..and from my understanding we have to be out by dec.1 so we have found another place and labri is telling us tht we cannot move with out puttin our 30day notice in or they will put it on our credit...please do not get ur self in the same situation....
Rude Staff.
I am looking for an apartment in the Downey area and saw that L'Abri Management had several buildings in the area that I would like to live.
I called the listed number on the for rent signs,
I asked what buildings had 1 bedroom apartments open and what are the 1 bedroom apartments renting for?
I was advised that they manage over 800 apartments in the area and that I needed to return the the buildings I liked and get the names of the bulidings and call them back. I asked if they had a list of buildings that had 1 bedroom apartments open. She responded with no you need to get the building names and call them back.
I will not call back, I feel that if they really wanted to rent apartments they would be more helpful,
Do not call it was a just a waste of time.
If this is how they treat new clients how do that treat current clients????
L'Abri Management Thieves.
My wife and I lived at the Cornerstone Apartments for 3 years. We began a lease in October 2006 and vacated in October 2009. This was three, complete, 12 month lease terms. We lived there because we work in Downey. We own a new home in Joshua Tree, CA, and a home in the Leisure World retirement community of Seal Beach. We are not rich, but we're certainly not poor. I'm telling you this because I want you to know that we are not just trying to get out of paying $1500.00 to L'Abri. We can easily afford the $1500.00. However, it's flat out, wrong that we have to!
The on-site manager at the Cornerstone Apt. is Laura Kearse. She maliciously tricked us into allowing her to extend our last years lease, to 14 months. When we read the lease we noted to her that she had extended the lease, from Otober 2008 until December 2009. She told us not to worry about it, that she knew us, that we always paid on time, and never created any problems, that we were perfect tenants. But, when we decided to move into the Seal Beach property, and vacate the Cornerstone Apt., Laura Kearse advised us that we would be charged with a $1500.00 early termination fee. When I reminded her that she had extended the lease, she immediately responded with "Well, you signed it". I advised the L'Abri Management office of her unscrupulous action, but of course they said the same thing, that we signed it. I wonder how much they compensate their on-site managers for screwing good tenants out of money? By the way, we gave L'Abri over $36,000.00 in rent, including extra monthly payments for use of a carport, and they still want to screw us. Of course, we are going to pay it, because not paying them will result in a negative statement to the credit reporting bureau. IT'S EXTORTION! So, beware of L'Abri, and their trained, on-site managers. They don't appreciate even their best tenants. It's sad that they are allowed to commit these acts of thievery, by the issuance of a business license from the city of Downey. They should be ashamed of themselves.
Positive Experience. I lived at the Exoctic Isle in Paramount. Great manager, they were always available when I needed them. I did have an issue with a noisy neighbor but managment was able to keep them quiet. Parking is tough sometimes but not bad enough to make a huge difference. The apatments were huge!
L'Abri Apartments...Horrible Managers. I moved into this apartment and lived there for almost a year. During that year my manager acted like she was our friend but little did we know she was telling EVERYONE our personal business. Not only was she telling people about how our house looked inside but how no one should trust us, how we stole things from her apartment, how we made threats to slash other residents tires... etc... all which are not true. This lady, Raihana Arellano, was always at our house up in our business so that she could gossip it all away. While she was "befriending" me and my husband she was telling us stories about other residents as well. Tons and tons of personal information being thrown out to make it public knowledge.. The bottom line is if you are going to move in there you will have your business thrown around, she has nothing better to do all day, you will pay sooo much for a tiny apartment, you will have a huge ant problem that wont be fixed because the manager has the same problem, an air conditioner that wont work and will be fixed "next week" but a YEAR later "next week" still didnt come. be cautious!!!! All other apartments on the street are much better and cost way less!!!
