Coq au Vin, Truffled Mac and Cheese and the best Turkey Burger ever!
by tranhawk
Metropol is good food, casual atmosphere, and no frills. They have a good wine selection and Rocco the manager always lines up pretty good Jazz for Friday and Saturday evenings. He also spends a lot of time making sure good wines are on the menu! Friday and Saturday from 8-10 live music always something different from Nick Mancini(personal favorite) to colburn students and everything in between. It is hidden completely in this alley in the Arts District. The only reason I went is because my friend knows the place well because there is a famous graffiti wall right in front of it. What a great surprise! Truffled Mac & Cheese is delicious! Asiago and smoked gouda cheese finished in truffle oil. A grown up take on a kid classic. Now they are open late and serve food till 10:30 pm on Thu, Fri, and Sat. I hear their Sunday brunch is good too.
- Pros: Great specials and Mon-Fri happy hours.
- Cons: Lunch parking can be tough but dinner is easier.
I can get Coq au Vin in the Arts District?

one of my favorite places in los angeles!!!
by thekitchenboy
wow--i'm so shocked to read these two bad/mediocre reviews of one of my favorite los angeles hideaways!! i live a block away and go to metropol often, and i've honestly had nothing but good experiences there. service excellent, ambiance chic enough to be impressive but comfortable enough to be cozy, great live music on the weekends, rarely too crowded (though even when it's packed, there's never a long wait), prices affordable, fabulous people-watching, and best of all, DELICIOUS food! the endive salad is my eternal favorite, though i also really love the pizzas and pastas. tasty wine selection too...
haven't done breakfast there since that started, but i do grab the occasional cup of coffee in the mornings and have been very happy with the quality and bang-for-my-(literally one)-buck.
sorry to hear others have had some unfortunate experiences, but i can't help but highly recommend this place. it's one of my top five favorite places to frequent!
- Pros: ambience, quality, value, music, people
- Cons: parking during daytimes
overpriced and lousy
by mrrobot
I'd eaten lunch here once before my wife and I shared an overpriced pizza albeit edible. I decided to try breakfast there and it was terrible I've never had a worse hollandaise or been so confused as to how someone could ruin berries and granola. My wife had one bite of some sort of breakfast sandwich before calling it quits. Not pleasurable at all, maybe if you lived upstairs and had been up drinking all night. I'm not sure about the rest of the menu although from the looks of it a lot could go wrong. I can't see how this place can stay open for breakfast, it was virtually deserted except for a couple of dreary eyed employees. It's a shame though as a descent restaurant could do well right there it's a little scummy but it's getting cleaner. If your in the neighborhood for lunch save yourself the trouble and eat at the sushi restaurant next door it's not bad.
- Pros: Nothing
- Cons: see review
Nice dining experience

I must admit I'm not an expert on European cuisine and this was my first time here. But good food is good food. My wife and I went on a Thursday night. It wasn't crowed; maybe just five parties. The waiter was friendly enough. He recommended some dishes and some drinks. My wife had the lobster ravioli. She loved it. I had the kobe burger. It was delicious. The bread they serve could be better. They have 50% off burgers on Thursday between 5-8pm, albeit you buy a beer or some type of drink. Again, this place is not spectacular, but we enjoyed it. ( It did help that we left the kids with grandpa).
