view & uploadhorrible hotel mac rae, rude owner, rude karen, dry mini bagels, dry sunny delight, very clean small rooms, nice place
Hotel Mac Rae is Horrible. I'm not the type to write customer reviews, but I feel the need to spread the word: The Hotel Mac Rae is horrible. Karen, the owner, is rude and is not customer service-oriented...and this philosophy is passed down onto the on-site staff. The pack-n-plays (cribs) are so outdated and dilapitated that you should definitely NOT stay here if you have small kids because they are sure to have an unsafe sleeping environment. The pillows and beds are lumpy and old; the towels are meager, thin and coarse; the continental breakfast consists of old dry mini bagels, Sunny Delight and gross mini-muffins; the rooms are small and the decor old. Above all of this is the horrible customer service you will receive when staying there. They gave away the cribs we reserved (yes, the crappy ones)! I have stayed there every summer for over 10 years so I do know what I'm talking about...find another hotel on the beach, there are plenty of them that will appreciate your business!
A quaint historical inn that has been owned by the same family since 1920..
In Short
Owned by the MacRae family since the Roaring Twenties, this quaint, Spanish stucco storefront hotel is a local institution. Twenty-four Mediterranean-style guest rooms are located on three floors and offer views of the beach and harbor, but they lack the abundance of modern amenities that the island's larger and newer hotels offer. The hotel does offer complimentary movies on video and beach towels for sun-drenched days.
Pretty, and Pretty Standard. Went here with my girlfriend for a few nights during the week. The place was definitely worth it at the offseason, mid-week price. Once they double it for the summertime, not sure it would be. Small rooms, but very clean. The courtyard is cute; a nice place to have a drink and soak up a little sun. The real drawing point is the location. You can literally see this place from the Catalina Express as you pull into the the harbor. It is right on the beach, right in the middle of the strip. Service was very gracious, but the continental breakfast left a lot to be desired.
