A very rewarding dining experience.. Excellet, daring dishes reward the adventurous, yet exceed the traditionalist's expectations. Very friendly, knowledgable staff present chef Dustin Trani's latest creations.

South Bay Dining Institution. The dinning room is full with family and friends and the bar is bustling with a crowd that can only be described as enthusiastic, for most of the crowd are all long time friends and those who may not be are made to feel as if they are. This is a typical Friday night at J. Trani?s Ristorante. It has been this way and will continue to be this way for years to come, friends and family from all walks of life getting together to enjoy a great meal in a warm and friendly environment. For 85 years the Trani family has owned and operated a restaurant in the small seaport town of San Pedro.

In 1921 after years of farming, fishing, and committed hard work, Filippo opened his first food establishment the ?Majestic Cafe?. In 1937, at the age of 13, Filippo?s son Jim joined his father at the Majestic Cafe. In 1990, father and sons continued the family tradition by opening a fourth Trani restaurant in San Pedro, J Trani's. 17-years later J. Trani?s is as, if not more popular than the day it first opened.

In a business where 99% of all new restaurants fail within the first year, you have to have something special that separates you from other establishments. Trani?s has a strong tradition, but most importantly they provide their consumers with a quality product at a reasonable price. I have friends who eat out in West L.A. and Beverly Hills, where the typical price-per-head is around $70. And time and time again they they tell me that for half the price they could have ate at Trani's and it would have been much better. Their calamari is the best in LA (ask for New Style). Every pasta is delicious, they have been making spaghetti and clams for 80 years. Fresh local caught seafood is always fresh. Their steaks come from a small boutique ranch in Colorado, and in my opinion, better than Prime Beef. The real star however, is the ever changing special menu, where Chef Dustin Trani pulls inspiration from star chefs Mario Batali, Thomas Keller, and Charlie Trotter.

LOVE it <3. I'm a San Pedro local and have to say that one of the best things about living in this town is having Trani's right down the street. It's a rarity because it combines really high-quality food and wine in a very comfy and casual setting. A dinner from Trani's would cost you twice as much if you ordered it up in L.A. There's a great bar scene too. Lots of wine to choose from and no matter how good the specials are, they always seem to top the one from week before. If you're ever in our little town, Trani's is a must!!

Great family restaurant!. J. Trani's is a very family oriented restaurant. It has been in San Pedro for over 85 years now and now a fourth generation of Trani's are begining to take over in the family business. Excellent Italian food and a few tasty surprises every week when the chef, Dustin Trani, creates a new Special's menu. Also the bartenders pour the best drinks that I have ever had. The waiters are the best.

Editorial Review by Nicole Urso. Decades of family tradition and inventive Italian cuisine mingle in this San Pedro hometown hub.
