Editorial Review for Cohiba Nightclub and Cigar Bar – by Dianne Molina
The Scene
Overlooking hopping Pine Avenue, this 7,500-square-foot space caters to both hip-hop and jazz enthusiasts. The high ceilings, gleaming wood accents and gorgeous arched windows create a decadent dance-hall vibe. Though the setting is decidedly upscale and the dress code strict, there is little pretentiousness in either the clientele or employees. The exquisite outdoor bar features a romantic view of downtown Long Beach and heat lamps for cool nights.
The Draw
This downtown LBC staple is the only place where one can enjoy a game of pool, a stiff martini, dancing and live music while lighting up a stogie inside. Each of the three rooms features its own vibe: The sprawling dance space accommodates up to 500 sultry dancers; adjacent to the dance floor is the martini lounge, which boasts an impressive selection of exquisitely concocted cocktails; and the adjoining dark, plush cigar-and-billiard lounge caters largely to a well-heeled corporate-raider crowd.

DJs are great. Bartenders are fine. But if your valuables are stolen, someone SEES who did it, and you report it to security and OWNERSHIP, look out. They wont care. Tonight, at Cohiba Nightclub, a small insignificant clutch containing the belongings of two ladies was snatched and emptied of two credit cards, an ID, and a cell phone. The responsible parties were identified by two men, not only to the victims, but also to the club security and ownership, to no avail. The gentlemen were fingered by witnesses upon re-entrance into the club after using the card next door at 7-Eleven, but security failed to do so LITTLE as just ask politely for a pocket check. One of the perps happened to be the "brother" of one of the laides at the door. FYI: she was hefty, husky, and hugely disinterested in the importance of her job. Not only this, but after report of the incident by witnesses, the "owner", a fuzzy Hells Angels type, promised to handle the situation. What did he do when the reported three showed up? Waved them out. Brother of an employee? No problem. ROB THE PATRONS THAT KEEP HIS BUSINESS OPEN. Nepotism is no issue. Cohiba could really offer a great time......if there werent a random shady few enabled by ownership and their overweight faux management to steal from you. Visit at your own risk.
Pros: drinks, djs
Cons: SECURITY, PATRONAGE, and "OWNERSHIP"
