I used to enjoy Sweet Jill's, but they must have changed owners because my last visit was disappointing. They're all of a sudden a cash only business. Hmmm...that seems legit. They have also replaced the cafe tables and chairs with somebody's salvaged livingroom furniture, which is creepy. They have replaced the cheerful, local staff with middle-aged women so challenged with simple English phrases that they choose to instead remain on the phone why they grab bland pastries from the cases.

Now don't get me started on the pastries. Neither the carrot cake nor the red velvet are made with cream cheese frosting as the cashier promised. The carrot cake tasted as though it were made from a box of Betty Crocker, but at least it had a taste, which is more than I can say for the red velvet.

Yuck. Sweet Jill's now has such negative charm it's actually sucking quaintness from neighborning businesses.

• Pros: it's on 2nd street, so it's close to other places that actually have good food
• Cons: the food is bad, the service is worse, and the salvage furniture is low class and creepy
