Longtime Long Beach breakfast spot steakhouse offers eclectic venue for live local music..
In Short
Depending upon what time of day one visits, this beloved Long Beach landmark is everything from a country breakfast kitchen to live music venue featuring homegrown bands and touring rock acts. The decor screams Kenny Rogers movie, with a saloon-style bar trimmed in gold tufted-vinyl and well-worn wood veneer walls with heavy-tube TVs, and paintings from California's Gold Rush. Daily food service begins with traditional breakfasts and continues throughout the day with pub-style lunches and two-hand steak or seafood dinners.
Best Kept Secret.....
Welcome to one of the best kept secrets in Long Beach, for dinning and and entertainment. Owners Luis and Candi Lemus have taken extreme steps to make sure the Prospector has maintained the atmosphere of yesteryear. Diversity is key, from menu selections, which includes daily and monthly specials to the entertainment oppertunities daily and most evenings.
There have been few changes from the menu that has been offered now for a few generations. In fact, that's some of the beauty of the Prospector. It's not uncommon to see families that include three or more generations dinning together regularly. Luis also offers accomodations for you special events, group dinner parties for special occasions and special arrangements for any occasion a.
Diversity ! From the daytime there is sports or soaps from several locations, or if inclined, lively conversation with friends and maybe with some of the well informed locals. The evenings always provide an array of entertainment ranging from live entertainment presented by and for Long Beach's renowned " Swanky " crowd to the " Old School " Karaoke groups which are always complemented by an enthusiastic LB State infusion. Rated a Must Try.
A Long Beach (LB) Landmark!!!. Forget my 'Average Ambience' rating. That's only because the owners don't know the meaning of remodling or refurbishing. But who really cares. Haskell's Prospector is a throw back to the times of dark, smoke filled lounge & restaurant era, now, of course, minus the smoke! Wow, times and prices may have changed, but what has not changed at Haskell's Prospector is the quality and quantity of the food, and the great service! Use to eat here years ago when I lived in LB. Well, my mother wanted to go there for her Mother's Day dinner. I'm like, 'Well, okay Mom??" But, all it took was moment to realize nothin's changed. And believe me, that was a good thing. You still get a relish tray with pickles, peppers, veggies...and with any 'dinner' item you get soup AND salad...bread...vegetable and a little desert!!!
Swanky. After 10:00pm, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, the Prospector turns into a great place to hear live music, or the hottest up and coming DJ's from all over Southern Ca. Cheap and strong drinks are poured by the coolest bartenders that have ever opened a bottle. The Prospector, located at 7th & Junipero, in Long Beach, is the place to be!!!
