In Short – This prototypical American racetrack is an ideal place to learn about the age-old tradition of racing. Most folks are downing beers, appeasing their inner gambling addict and enjoying the rush of picking a winner. Though the nicely groomed landscaping looks straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting, the vibe is more fourth-quarter Super Bowl when the horses near the finish line.
Enjoy the races for a day

Santa Anita Park was my first introduction to sports betting, and I still love it. I enjoyed visiting the track with my parents (as an adult) and mulling over the program...using my scientific method for choosing my picks for the races. (Usually horse names, horse colors or jockey colors.) The center of the track where the group areas are is always fun. It allows people to bring their families and everyone has a great time picnicking. The kids can play in the playground and adults can enjoy the BBQ and the beer. I've even been here during one of the large cultural festivals that Arcadia always has. It can get very crowded but it's always fun. Go and enjoy the races for a day.
- Pros: lots of parking

This is a beautiful park- very well maintained w/lots of history and Seabiscuit himself on display. I'd never been to a racetrack so it was a very interesting and thrilling experience. Watch them trot out the horses before the races where you can appreciate them up close. I would definitely fork over the extra 20 bucks for the Turf Club if you're on a date or want a special experience. Men have to wear a blazer and you have great seats w/your own little tv to drink bloody marys by. I know there's supposed to be a very good restaurant but it's behind glass and we liked feeling part of the action. The atmosphere and servers are old school and a lot of the customers are of an older generation but a great time. Was surprised by how thrilling the races are!
- Pros: thrilling, unusual, spiffy grounds
- Cons: open 4 mos/yr, in ARcadia

This place hasn't changed in years. The old guys have their newspaper spread out. The rich guys sit in the booths with the TVs. The not-so-rich people sit high in the stands, munching on peanuts they smuggled in. The regulars smoke cigars and talk about the day's contenders. A true day at the races -- and a great way to spend the afternoon, get some fresh air, lose a little money and make a few memories.
