Tips for The Old Spaghetti Factory

October 06, 2008

Kitschy Italian restaurant churns out heaping plates of pasta that won't break the bank.. In Short
Whimsical antiques and decorative items--velvet armchairs, vintage-looking fringed lamps and booths made from iron bedsteads--fill the dining room. The OSF Classics menu offers spaghetti with a choice of mushroom sauce, rich meat sauce, browned butter and feta-like mizithra cheese sauce, and more. Other popular favorites are the baked lasagna--layers of noodles, tomato sauce and four kinds of cheese--and the fettuccine Alfredo. Meals include a green salad, fresh-baked bread and ice cream.

THE BEST "PRIX FIXE" ITALIAN-AMERICAN DINNER. The Old Spaghetti Factory offers COMPLETE DINNER entrees consisting of soup or salad, main entree, bread, beverage, and dessert. You have your choice of Minestrone Soup or a simple green salad, your choice of beverage?hot coffee, hot tea, iced tea, or milk, and your choice of dessert?Spumoni ice cream or Vanilla ice cream. The price per complete dinner depends upon your choice of entree, but as of 2007, a party of three adults can be fed for less than $30?tax included?plus tip. Most dinner entrees are under $11, and if you?re not hungry for a complete meal, you can order a la carte, too. Highly recommended is the Breast of Chicken Fettuccine, which comes with strips of chicken breast meat, cooked green broccoli and mushrooms over fettuccine noodles and topped with a tasty butter cream sauce (?Alfredo Sauce?)?delicious and very filling. Their Lasagna is extra flavorful because they make it with BOTH seasoned ground beef and ground pork in addition to the tomato sauce and four kinds of cheese. Other favorite dishes include Spaghetti w/White Clam Sauce and Spaghetti w/Mushroom Sauce. And once in a while, the Duarte location offers a ?Daily Special? featuring ?Spaghetti w/Pesto Cream Sauce??absolutely delicious and an entree to die for!

Bland Italian Food for the easily impressed. For years now, I've heard people rave about this place. After finally having dinner here, I suppose my expectations were too high. After waiting ten minutes to have our empty glasses filled with water, an additional five minutes were required to receive menus. I could understand if the place were filled to capacity and the wait staff were truly busy, but my wife and I arrived at 4 PM for an early dinner and were seated immediately. I would estimate the restaurant to be at 30% capacity at most. The food was mediocre at best, definitely a disappointment for supposedly "quality" Italian food. The meal kicked off with a bite-sized salad that employed the technique of using large amounts of dressing to disguise the wilted lettuce. The main course fared no better. If you are under the impression that Italian cuisine is supposed to be spicy, be prepared for major disappointment. The meat sauce was so bland I felt cheated. I had to "enhance" the flavor with salt, pepper, and generous shakes of grated parmesan. My wife's Chicken Penne Pasta had a precious few slices of chicken breast buried underneath the marinara. If that was a whole chicken breast, then OSF should reprimand their poultry purveyor for the meager size of the birds they are being sold. My only conclusion as to the popularity of this establishment is that people are drawn in by the admittedly interesting building which houses it, and either A) have no idea how to make a half-decent meal at home, or B) have never tasted GOOD Italian food. Olive Garden (of all places!) puts this place to shame.

Really Good Italian Food. I love this place for three reasons. 1) The food is really tasty. I would recommend the ravioli. Pasta is always good, and chicken is always tender. 2) The service is outstanding. If you have a special request, they'll try to make it happen. Waitstaff is very attentive. 3) Above all else, I love the atmosphere and the history of the building. It's an original schoolhouse that's been there for so long. I used to walk by it all the time to get to my (now gone) junior high. I'm so glad they saved this historic building. Good For kids, and Romantic as well. They also do events like Rehearsal Dinners.

Amoung The Best. I love to vist the Old Spaghetti Factory - great food - reasonable prices. The Pesto dressing on the diner salad is the best dressing to be found at any italian restaurant.

Pasta lovers dream. I have only eaten here twice, but that's all I needed. I really enjoyed the food and the entire decor of the restaurant. My boyfriend had a friendly and fast waitress. Our wait time for a table was under 20 minutes. A very good bargin is to have a complete dinner, which comes with bread, salad, coffee or tea, and dessert.
