A classic theater that needs some TLC. Right now it's literally rusting away but with a nice new paint job, the installation of a proper screen and sound system, and new seats this could be a palace. It has a lot of history but it needs to be maintained.

Movie-Trippin. I wouldn't exactly call it a LUXURY theater, but any theater that has this level of art deco styling (including the HEAD OF A SNAKE carved out above the movie screen) is a-ok with me. They haven't retrofitted the place in a while, but the bonus is: the admission is cheap and so is the concession stand!

A great offbeat choice. South Pasadena scores points for having a movie theater as cool as the Rialto. It's an old theater, but it bears the weight of its years gracefully. (Check out the lobby display for info on the theater's history). The seats aren't particlularly comfortable, but there's something inescapably grand about coming to a one-screen movie palace. Perhaps because you're not seeing a movie--you're seeing THE movie. In any case, the Rialto doesn't play the usual selection of films, so keep the schedule handy--you'll almost certainly find something you'll want to see.
