Tips for El Portal Restaurant

Hi I went to this Restaurant today with a couple Friend's we order Margaritas and mojitos, the drink were fine until the second round when they serve me a margarita with lips stick all over the glass, that was very disgusting, after I did order a Yucatan Trio ( THE SPECIALTY OF THE HOUSE) and then when I was half way of my dish guess what happen? I did almost swallow a big long and tick curly hair that was in my cochinita pibil, that was the most disgusting thing from that place, that was my first time there with my friend, we did talk after with manager about it and he put the all bill on the house and he did apologize to us for what happen and he did offer us a free meal for the next time we will come back, but personally I don't care about the free meal. I will never go to that place never ever in my life again, even if they wont charge me nothing, also the food was really poor in FLAVOR and no taste at all, the only thing that I did like it from this place was the CHIPS & GUACAMOLE that's all.

Please guys check first your food carefully and drinks before your eat it or drink it!

I give to this place half start.

A good restaurant gone bad. Very dissapointed in the new owners. The "old" restaurant had good food a very good drinks. The new owners changed the menu, increased the prices, fired the cooks and bartenders and now have a very low class, low quality restaurant. Food is not very good and the drinks are even worse, cheap alcohol and not very much of it. The worst fruit maragita I have ever had - I had to put in 6 packets of sugar in it just to make it drinkable. We really felt sorry for our waiter - he continually was apologizing for the food drinks, chips & salsa, etc. He even told us that it is not the restaurant it used to be.

Good Food, Reasonable Prices. Another nice restaurant in Pasadena. I ordered the Chile Verde burrito, asked for extra cheese, and was very happy with the results. The waitstaff was attentive and kept our drinks and chips filled. Lunch was served quickly, and the portions were exactly what i expected for the price. A reasonable choice for lunch, and definitely one I will try again soon.

Year-round heated patio provides a twinkling backdrop for Yucatan-style Mexican cuisine.. In Short
Natural light and exposed-brick walls dotted with vibrant paintings create a cozy, unpretentious atmosphere. Complement the potent Cadillac margaritas with the indulgent appetizer platter--an assortment of chicken and pork taquitos and flautas, quesadillas and nachos. Rich achiote-based sauces and marinades break from the chili heat of most Mexican menus. Soft flour tortillas accompany marinated pork cochinita pibil, and enchiladas de Jaiba are stuffed with crab and enveloped in cream sauce.

Sweet and mild on a sunny day. The service was quite pleasant . The location is quiet and there is lovely outdoor seating - shaded and sunny - for nature lovers. The servings were adequate, but the flavors were not particularly interesting. If anything this is a restaurant to take people who don't like spicy mexican food. The prices are a bit high considering the lack of imagination coming from the kitchen, and the food took a long time to arrive.

Good solid standby. El Portal is not the greatest Mexican food I've ever had, but it's very good. It's a great place to have lunch with friends of fellow office workers. It's a great setting for an after-work margarita celebration. The staff is extremely friendly, the main dining room can get a little noisy when crowded but there's always the patio for some quiet.

Beautiful Restaurant!. Greatest hideaway in the city and picture perfect ambience for what it is. The food was not that exciting though. The portion served was not enough for what you pay. The thing that set this restaurant apart from other Mexican restaurants is their Yucatan influenced dish. It was a good experience of location and decor inside a courtyard, but not too fond of the food. I had much, much better food at a lower scale restaurant. This whole recommendation is for the location and feel to the restaurant.

CHEESE ENCHILADAS!!!. All I have to say is that I am in love with their cheese enchiladas and I could eat ther everyday without getting tired of it!!! I love cheese enchiladas and these are the best I have ever had, and trust me, I know a good one when I taste it.

Yummy. El Portal has some of the tastiest fruity margaritas around. Usually an "on the rocks with salt" gal, I tend to shy away from the fruity concoctions--the mango 'rita at this place definitely changes my mind, though! Really delicious. El Portal also offers darn-good tostados and the huevos rancheros is pretty good, as well.
