What People Are Saying About Pasadena Playhouse

In Short – Located on a quiet street just off bustling Colorado Boulevard, this Spanish Colonial Revival-style building is a source of great pride for Pasadena. Established nearly 90 years ago, the playhouse was named California's official state theater in 1937. The playhouse's College of Theatre Arts was a mecca for aspiring talent, jumpstarting the careers of William Holden, Gloria Stuart, Eve Arden and Dustin Hoffman, who have all appeared in plays here. The theater closed during the '70s due to economic hardships. – –

How Do We Revive The PASADENA PLAYHOUSE?
by EaglesFan at Citysearch
The Pasadena Playhouse is one of Pasadena's treasures, and now it's shuttered. Chronic financial problems. Hopefully they can reorganize their debt and reopen.
In recent years they were doing a good job with outreach to the community. They had great programs for kids. But the plays that were produced were sometimes hit or miss. If you were a subscriber, you didn't know if you were going to get world class theatre, or walk out holding your nose.
Please know, however, that the community is rooting for the Playhouse to make a comeback. We need you!
- Pros: Beautiful old theatre, historically significant
- Cons: Closed and declared bankruptcy
Gorgeous Venue Great Play
by wam08 at Citysearch
I just saw a play here last night and it was fantastic! This theatre was gorgeous with historic spanish inspired architecture both inside and out! Small intimate setting but still professionally presented, and great mix of both casual and nicely dressed attire were acceptable. And of course the play was fantastic. Notible actors who performed brilliantly! And the prices were incredible, we got half price tickets a few days before. I can't wait to come see their next play!
- Pros: Beautiful Theatre, great actors, great price
