if it wasn't for the service...

ok, the best thing I can say about this place is that it serves decent italian food (the basics with a tiny little bit of flair) and has a fantastic flower arrangement at the hostess station. The worst thing about this place is the service: as many others have stated, the service is ghastly; our waitress wasn't terrible, she was very personable and almost attentive: but the manager/owner lady was gruff and dismissive, when we were trying to get a table! It was a busy saturday night, but I suspect with a few more dismissed customers, they'll have ample time to attend to their dwindling number of customers.

Great for takeout

I have to admit that I've never eaten at the restaurant on Fair Oaks...but I can tell you I've had their take out several times. I take jewelry classes in Pasadena on Saturdays and when we will often order lunch for delivery from Manny's. Their cheese tortellini with meat sauce is more than enough for a lunch serving, and they always bring some bread. Once I ordered a side salad, but it was a little too much food. I've also had the provolone and avocado sandwich with a salad. It's a good lunch portion...but not so heavy that I fall asleep while trying to solder silver during the afternoon session.

Worst service ever...

Perhaps the service and food have gone downhill since this place opened (and the rave reviews were posted). But I went on a quiet night, could not have been more than five tables occupied, and although we were seated promptly, it took forever to get someone to take our order. Then we had a problem with the pizza, and was told by another waiter that he couldn't help us, and we would have to wait for our server. And wait we did.... At no point were we asked how if we needed anything, and then it took an additional 20 minutes to pay the bill. I was so frustrated that I went up to our "server" and asked if he was the manager. And surprisingly he admitted that he was. I told him I understand that they were preparing to close, but that this was some of the worst service ever. To which he said, "ok, thanks." Not even an apology. Now if the manager gives you such poor service, I cannot imagine that he really wants any of your business. You think he would work harder to get and keep customers since the food is nothing to write home about. But no, not interested. Guess he gets enough tourists that he doesn't need any business from the locals. There are dozens of Italian restaurants within a two block radius. I would say, save your time and money and look elsewhere. Between the food and service, you're just wasting an evening in what is otherwise a great neighborhood.
