Epitomizing office casual wear, Banana Republic started out as a small vendor of safari-inspired clothing before it was purchased by the Gap in 1983. Since then, it has grown into a brand-name behemoth that one-ups the Gap in quality, status and price--but not necessarily creativity. The core of the collection is constant: versatile staples such as khakis, button-down shirts, denim, T-shirts and jackets in solid, organic colors. Lengths and fabrics change slightly according to the season. Some stores have expanded into bedding, fragrance, bath and beauty, and home-furnishing lines.

trendy. BR is NY trendy shiek with NY prices. Quality is inconsistent, sometimes things don't last long with only light to moderate use. Most things look better on the manequins than they do on you, especially after a couple washes. You can find a cool new style once in a while but for the most part you get a few solid colors, basic lines in a few fabrics, but overall, very plain looking. I have a pair of their flat front pants for some time, still very in style.

I prefer Kenneth Cole who I think stays up with the times, comes out with new stuff more often and has higher quality merchandise in general. Also, KC has more fabric choices that keep up with the times better than BR.

good stuff. ever since i was able to afford it, i've been shopping at Banana Republic. The clothes are of good quality and i love the look. it's a great place to get that dress casual look.

Way too expensive. Bananna Republic has really nice clothes but come on! it's way too expensive!

Wait for the sales!. I think Banana is pretty overpriced, that's why I always wait for the sales. It's worth it, you can find $78 slacks for $19.99 if you're lucky. The selection is way better than the Gap, but then of course it's better quality. Go online and check out the sales - then hit the store!

Good Selection. This is one of the bigger Banana Republic stores in LA. If you like the Gap but want higher quality and a little more style, Banana is the place to go. Just wait a little for the sales and you will get your money's worth! Also, they have great shoes!
