ambiance
81.25% positive
  1. The atmosphere is romantic, but a bit crowded since it's in one of the skinny old buildings in Old Town.
  2. The restaurant is not the most romantic place, but suffices for a nice casual date.
  3. This space has good food, but not the prettiest location.
  4. Good location is always a plus for me.
  5. Nice cozy atmosphere.
  6. Otherwise It's a cozy little place to enjoy a casual evening with friends.
  7. The saving grace is the relatively nice, dark ambiance with candles on each table and a very attentive young Indian girl (perhaps the daughter of the owner) who was concerned with our needs than the multiple waiters going around for nothing.
  8. So I go to Mahan in Alhambra (the cooks are really from India there, the place romantic, and the flavors authentic), or to the one by my work, Star of India.

  8. This place makes me crave Good Indian food.
  9. The service is good, especially as we have been there in a group of six or more people, but overall the food doesn't merit recommendation.
  10. The food is very, very good, no kidding!
  11. we Specialy like their chicken Tikka masala and fish Tikka.
  12. Their hot chai is also satisfyingly spicy and great for a cool Pasadena evening.
  13. My wife thought that she could drown the tasteless food in alteast some of the traditional flavors of chutney, but those were like old jelly from your grandma's kitchen.
  14. Service is very slow from sitting down and waiting on a practically half-filled restaurant, to waiting for the food, and asking for the check more than once.
  15. The chicken dishes are really good and highly recommended with naan

  46. Their tikka marsala sauce is very good, too.

Indian in Old Town

by llyonize at Citysearch

I have not eaten Indian food too many times, and I think I have always tried the same dish Chicken Korma, which this place did not have on the menu, so I went with the special of the day Mango Chicken, it was ok. We also got some roasted veggies and garlic nan which were tasty. The atmosphere is ok nothing special. If you like Indian, you would probably like it, maybe Indian is just not for me

My favorite dish is the Chicken Tikka Masala -- amazing sauce. Very tasty. I find myself craving it.

worst Indian food I have ever had

by jazy at Citysearch

I thought the chutney was salsa it didn't even taste like chutney. They messed up my order and brought me tofu instead of paneer. When I told them that they brought me tofu they didn't think it was tofu but they finally realized it and said oh ok and brought me the right thing but i had to wait while everyone else at my table was eating. we asked for medium spicy and the food wasn't spicy at all it actually tasted sweet.

  • Pros: none
  • Cons: food doesn't even taste indian

Great, but only if you like HORRIBLE indian food

by JSCitysearch at Citysearch

I should have known something was amiss when the waitress didn't know what "vindaloo" was. Soon thereafter, I was served a dish that was so unlike lamb vindaloo (and so remarkably identical in taste to a salsbury steak tv dinner) that I had to ask -- are you SURE that this is lamb vindaloo? I was assured that it was vindaloo. But I can tell you with some certainty that a Big Mac would have been closer to lamb vindaloo than the alpo super chunky meat slop that I was served. Everything on my plate -- and on the plate of the person eating with me -- was a miserable, tasteless culinary disaster. I love indian food, and I am not a food snob, but this was so utterly horrible that I had the overwhelming urge to warn every person entering All India Cafe to turn around and run away, as fast as their legs could carry them.

  • Pros: the iced tea was quite good
  • Cons: every dish now lives in my nightmares
