What People Are Saying About Mijares Mexican Restaurant

In Short – From the neon Corona sign to the bulk-quantity chips and salsa, Mijares looks like the set of some 1970s Univision movie and represents the quintessential SoCal taqueria. There's nothing fancy here, and that's the point. Happy hour is the main draw, and lasts from 4pm to 7pm, Monday through Thursday. Dishes full of complimentary chicken wings, nachos and little burritos keep packing in the crowds.
Overpriced, below average, mexican food

I ate there and ordered the steak fajitas. I have eaten many fajitas at many other establishments and this one at Mijares by far is the smallest and most expensive one I have ever had. After I ate it I was still hungry and went to In-n-Out to eat. I will never go back to Mijares. I would rather go to El Torito or even Chipotle for that matter.
- Pros: I just don't know
- Cons: There are far better Mexican establishments out there.

The things I like about Mijares include their margaritas, their friendly staff, and the patios. I've dined here for dinner with my husband...had cocktails with a small group of friends, and enjoyed large family functions. I've also had good takeout...since it's right next door to a jewelry studio where I take classes. Their food is always consistently good...their drinks always consistently excellent. The staff here is more than friendly, and always accommodating. Take note that A LOT of people know this...and they ALL come here. It's difficult to find parking...unless you get their VERY early or are absolutely lucky to catch someone pulling out of a parking spot. Even with that drawback...I say give it a try. Visit Mijares and enjoy a margarita for me.
- Pros: good food, friendly service
- Cons: parking can be scarce
Terrible food, overpriced, not even close to authentic Mexican cuisine!

I took two friends from out of town to this place upon the recommendation of my husband. He hadn't eaten there in several years, but I figured it would be fine. I was so embarrassed. These two people had never been to Los Angeles before and were looking forward to some authentic Mexican cuisine, something that they can't really find in Portland, their home town. Because they are good friends, they were honest with me when I asked them if they liked the food, commenting that mine was definitely sub-standard. They agreed completely, saying that the food was too bland and you couldn't tell one item from another based upon the flavor. Additionally, the rice was dry and flavorless, as was the chicken, the tamales were so dry that I thought the corn husk was still attached, and the steak was tough and didn't quite taste like beef. The bill? $103.00 (not including tip) for three meals, three margaritas and two desserts with coffee. Way overpriced considering the quality of the food. I would happily pay that and more for really tasty food. This was not.
- Pros: Decent guacamole
- Cons: Every other item was flavorless and dried out
