good service, best seafood pad thai, great place, mediocre thai food, great restaurant, great atmosphere, favorite noodles dishes
Pad Thai that is saucy and delicious!. Great place, nice ambiance, and of course one of the best pad thai I have ever had! It was thick on with delicious sauce!
My experience was terrible food, even worse service, and absolutely the worst attitude I've seen from servers in ages. My co-workers and I go to lunch once each month and this month it Saladang. We had been anxiously waiting for a few weeks since Thai hadn't been our choice for a long time. I was assured it was "the best" around. I guess "delicious is on the palate of the beholder". My Tom Yung Goon (sp) was absolutely the worst I have ever tasted. There was no zip to it, no spice and no flavor. The stuffed chicken wings were not bad, but when I asked for a bit of cucumber to go with it I was told it was $2.00. My companion asked for more peanut sauce for the satay - $2.00, a bit more dressing for the salad - $2.00. One of my co-workers waited for 10 minutes before being served his lunch - 10 of us were eating and he had nothing. No explanation, no apology and lots of attitude. When the check was delivered I asked for a menu to take along so I could have each of us chip in for their meal, I was practically brow beaten by the management - and the final answer was NO. Ambiance: so loud it was like being in an airplane and we were packed into a table with no clearance for wait staff and were constantlly being banged into the entire meal. The good points: A nice lazy susan for sharing, but who would want to!! A few of my friends have "Thai Tuesday" every week and we try different places - SALADANG will never be on the list. Suffice it to say, I'll never return, but others rave. Must be "taste" challenged.
OUR FAVORITE RESTAURANT!.
I'm amazed at one of the reviewers who wrote such a horrible and untruthful review of this restaurant. We go here at least once a week and the service is always fantastic. I've NEVER been upcharged for a meal--the prices are extremely reasonable. You do need to ask for water as they're conserving water for the environment (there are signs clearly posted) but they are NEVER rude and the manager is always amazingly attentive. We haven't had any issues so I'm not sure what it would be like if we needed something fixed, etc. but I figure about 50 trips a year (at least) without incident or complaint makes it pretty unlikely that anyone new will have a problem (unless you're unreasonable-I'm guessing??).
We hardly ever try anything new because we have our "favorites" but love taking friends here so we can taste what they order and develop new ones! Great dishes are Kao Pad Ka Na (broccoli and cashew nut), Pad See Iew (rice noodles with broccoli and egg), yellow curry, spicy beef salad, rice cups with tofu (appetizers) and the apple salad (unusual but fantastic!). And great Thai iced tea.
The outside dining area with huge iron walls makes it a beautiful place for an evening meal, too!
Excellent dining experience. I drive 35 miles each way to go to it, and every one I take loves it & Saladang.. Each time I dine at Saladang Song or Saladang, I am amazed at how flavorful the dishes are and how creative the chef is. I regularly go to both locations, often for birthday celebrations. I went last week to Saladang Song and my friend and I shared a wonderful deep fried sea bass with a savory chile sauce, a sweet, sour & tangy Granny Smith apple salad, and a pink noodle dish that was to die for. We ate so heartily that there was no room left for dessert -- and it was her birthday. I am taking another girlfriend there tonight for her birthday celebration. She can hardly wait to go there again and it was the choice she uttered as soon as I asked her out to celebrate. I have never had anything to eat there that wasn't excellent. Certainly I like some dishes better than others, but that's normal. As far as the pricing goes, I am not a wealthy person, and this is a place I can afford to take a friend for a birthday dinner. Last week, including my friend's ice tea and our rice, in addition to the food mentioned above, our total including tax and tip was in the low $50s -- and I gave a 20% tip. I have never had any problem getting service there or having my water refilled--in fact, last week I had to stop the server from refilling my glass for the fourth time as I couldn't drink any more and am not a wasteful person. Saladang Song and Saladang are my favorite Thai restaurants. I highly recommend them both and will continue driving to them as long as I live in Southern California.
It is difficult for me to give this place even one star. I can not explain the horrible service I received at Saladang. How this place has 5 stars I will never know. Their service was distasteful, rude, and insulting. They do not state the prices up front, be careful for upgrades. They commonly will ask you if you'd like either chicken/meat/vegetables/combination dishes without telling you that there is an upgrade price when they are all bracketed together. A simple dish of curry/rice/or pad thai will jump from the price of 7.50 to 39.50. You must be careful, they will not fix their errors. They will not let you speak to a manager. They will insult you. Their food was awful. When you ask them to fix your food and correct your order if you ordered it spicy, they will go and make it unbearably spicy just to mock you. I have never been treated so poorly in all my life, my friends have never been treated so poorly in all their lives, do NOT be their next victim. DO NOT dine here. I also found hair in my food. They don't let you even talk to a manger. Save your money, your time, your spirit, your heart, and your wallet. Do not contribute to a place that does not care about customer service. One member started to choke from spicyness of the food and asked for water and the water person loitered around and talked to another customer and brought the water 6 minutes later. It was awful, do not go here, ever!
When Mediocre Restaurants Become Lousy. This was never a great restaurant and now it has become lousy. Lousy service & mediocre food. Definitely overpriced. The waitresses were rude, looked at me if I was crazy when I asked for chopsticks and more water. At the end of the meal, after waiting 15 minutes, I asked where our leftovers were. There was confusion & finally 5 minutes later, they brought a bag over. I decided to check & sure enough, it wasn't our food. We brought it to the front and complained. There was more confusion and they had no idea what the hell they were doing. After 10 more minutes of waiting around we decided to leave and never go back. Saladang didn't even offer to make it up to us.
Great experience. I went there Saturday afternoon after my sisters graduation. We had a party of 20 and the service was the best. The Steamed Salmon in Curry was to die for, and the atmoshphere was perfect. I', having all my business meetings there from now on.
Bad soup but service attitude was the one gave it a thumbs down.
We went to saladang song few weeks ago on a friday night to celebrate my broth-in-law's birthday. There were 6 of us. Since my dad loves the Thai tong-yum soup, so we ordered the soup for everyone.
When soup was served, we were really surprised how bad it taste, in fact, it didn't even look like tong-yum soup at all, it tasted like someone poured vinegar into boiling water and dump some veggies inside and call it a tong-yum soup.
After a few spoon of the soup, we decided that we couldn't take it anymore and have to complain to the restaurant. The waitress passed our complaint to one of the managers. To our surprise, the manager came and started accusing us that "if the soup taste that bad, then why you drank almost half of them?" and he continued on saying that "I can't send them back to the kitchen because you finished almost half of the soup already"
My sister was soo upset that she said "We will not order this soup next time" and to our bigger surprise, the manager raised his voice and said "GOOD". That soup-experience ruined our birthday celebration and we will never go back to saladang song again.
Great Thai Food!. I am not much of a thai food fan, but a good friend had her engagement party a Saladang Tsong this past sunday and it made me a convert. The food was excellent-- very flavorful, sweet and spicy. Had a chance to sample the chicken satay (average but good), beef salad (spicy and satisfying), and salmon choo chee (yum!). There was also a salad with a sweet clear dressing that was incredible and I plan on going back to see if I can get a bottle of my own! I am not sure of the prices, but I think its well worth the trip. Plus the decor of the restaurant is great and perfect for a warm summer night. Can't wait to go back there!
Citysearch give wrong information. It's a birthday party for my friend, we hope to get the best Thai food in town. As always, we searched from citysearch begining to worst night. The citysearch giving wrong infomation of Saladang and Saladang song phone number and address, which made us got wrong reservation place and a bun of us got to the wrong place, and when i got the Saladang they said there is no our reservation. We found out that our booked at Saladang Song because the phone number providing by citysearch is wrong. There are very confusing in formation of citysearch the famous web-searching.. Also, the citysearch gave the award of best Thai food 2004 to Saladang I wonder that it really mean Saladang or Saladang Song?
