Not what it used to be... – Sadly, Club 41 has gone downhill over the last several years. If you had walked in here 5 years ago...you would have seen couples in the wooden booths...sports fanatics at the bar and maybe a private party in one of the back rooms. These days...this old steakhouse standby has sadly lost it's charm. The atmosphere is largely the same...but the staff is definitely not. I have to say...the staff here was never super friendly or hugely accommodating...but at least they checked on you after they brought your food. I can't recommend Club 41 these days, unfortunately. I'd recommend at least two other restaurants within a few yards that server excellent steaks or chops with friendly service in great atmosphere.
Not fit for an animal – What a shame. Went Saturday the 18th of August to celebrate a birthday and anniversary. Called about 4:30pm for reservation @ 7:45pm. Upon arrival we noticed the burst of hot air that came at us us. It was actually hotter in the restaurant than outside, and this was Pasadena. Should have known better when we saw only another table of 4 there with two big fans directed in the area of them. Note: never disregard a sign! We asked the hostess if the air conditioning was out. 3 times she ignored the question. But being the die-hard fans of this once popular and great food restaurant we decided it was worth it. Again another sign, our waitress arrived with the worst body odor you could imagine. Again being a die-hard fan of this restaurant we ordered drinks and dinner. Drinks took 20 minutes to arrive. Dinner took over 45 minutes. Please remember that we and the other table were the only ones in there. When our prime rib arrived it looked gray in color and then the taste test. Had to remove it from our mouths ASAP. It even smelled like it was left out. Please keep in mind that we have been coming here for over 25 years. At that point we asked for our bill and asked for the food to be removed A.S.A. P. Our server came over and handed us the bill for the cocktails with not even an apology. The hostess came over to see what was happening and then walked away and still no apology. They even had the nerve to charge us for all 4 cocktails, and still no apology. A properly run restaurant would have informed us of there problems when we first called. Anyway I did call the proper authorities and also found out what others had said after the fact. This once wonderful and popular restaurant was having financial problems and will not even be around within the month. What a shame. They should close their doors so that people can remember the good times and not the ones like this. Not even fit for a barnyard animal. Pity.
Employees Don't Get Paid- Thus The Bad Attitudes – The service at Club 41is awful and for good reason. I am a former employee who finally got her break in life and landed a great job. Unfortunately, I was stuck forced to make ends meet with this horrible restaurant. This is the most horribly managed restaurant in California. I have never heard of such gross violations of the law. The owners do not pay employees, many of whom are illegal immigrants whom have no recourse of the law. There is no management and the employees are left to fend for themselves, running the restaurant with no resources on their own. Waiters are overloaded with duties while working with a new kitchen staff every week because no one is getting paid. The place is constantly out of stock of everything and waiters have to say "I am so sorry, we are out of that right now.." over and over again day in and day out. The food is of terrible quality and waiters have to constantly take food back, a stressful way to work every day. Creditors call all day asking for payment and waiters are juggling this and customer service at the same time. Worst of all, I did not get paid for three months. I incurred hundreds of dollars worth of late fees and had to worry about eviction and repossession. I was stuck working there because I was in such trouble financially that I had to at least get tip money, thus putting me in a horrible cycle. So, if you have gone to Club 41 and have endured poor service, try to remember that the employee was serving you for free at the same time as they worried about having diapers for their baby and a roof over their head.
Stay Away! 7/26/07 – The service is awful. The waiter took our drink order and disappeared for about 25 minutes. He then arrived with an bad attitude. Once he took our food order we asked "How long will it take". He responded " as long as it takes" then continued "go and ask the cook". We then told him that we didn't appreciated his tone and asked to speak to his manager. To our surprise he said "I AM THE MANAGER!" The arrogant idiot proceed to kick us out of the restaurant yelling "GET OUT, GET OUT!"
When one goes out to eat one expects to have a great meal with family and friends. This is not the treatment that any customer deserves. If you like good food and to be respected......this is NOT the place for you.
Enter the 'Twilite Zone' – By 9 pm on a Saturday night every place is packed in Pasadena - EXCEPT - Club 41. Not a single customer in sight, like an episode of the 'Twilite Zone'. I was even wondering if the place was open, but it was. And I could tell right away why everyone is avoiding this place--the staff is so RUDE and unwelcoming. What a waste of a nice location!
A sad story of a great restaurant gone bad. – This used to be a great restaurant. I had gone there for nearly 20 years, and it was always exceptional quality. Many birthdays and good times were had at this once-classic restaurant. Wonderful meats, great caesar salads, the best sourdough in the world, and the darkest,richest chocolate ice cream I had ever seen before or since. Service was only of the highest caliber.
Then, the worst happened: Ownership change.
Club 41 is now in need of rescue.
The steak was awful, the place was half-empty (for good reason), and service was non-existent. We walked out after one drink, never to return.
Old Town's turn-of-the-century-style chophouse offers thick steaks, stiff drinks and no-nonsense waiters. – In Short
With its high-backed wooden booths, low lighting and no-nonsense servers, this is the kind of two-fisted, old-fashioned chophouse that's rare in Southern California. The long, gregarious bar attracts sports buffs, who gaze at the overhead television and banter with the bartenders. Steaks are skillfully cooked--the rib eye is the preferred cut-- as are the massive double-loin lamb chops and roast prime rib. Non-grilled standbys include nostalgic takes on chicken Parmesan and meat loaf.
What a huge disappointment this place was – I've lived in Pasadena for 4 years and finally decided to try out Club 41 after years of hearing good things. Sadly it fell way below expectations. When we arrived there was no one to greet or seat us. It was 7:30pm on a Saturday night and the place was half-empty; my reservations obviously weren't necessary. My girlfriend ordered prime rib, only to be told they were completely out of it. I went with the NY Cut steak - worst NY steak I have ever had. 50% of it was fat and grisle, the rest was flavorless meat. The table next to us ordered 4 filets: they hated them and sent 2 back. All 4 of them eventually pushed their plates aside and didn't even finish eating. My girlfriend got the shrimp scampi and actually loved it, interestingly. Our waiter was sub-par. Ambience was average. Booths were comfortable at least.
Excellent food and service – We found Delacey when Twin Palms was closed for a private party. The food is excellent and the staff solicitous. If you enjoy perfect steaks in a leather and mahogany booth setting, you'll love this place. And they have the best creamed spinach in the world. The room is so relaxing that we almost missed the beginning of a football game. It's a little on the expensive side but it's well worth it. One tip: check out the wine list on the table. It's just as good as the one on the menu and a lot cheaper.
When you have had a rough, tough day, come here – There is no way to end a tough day like this place. A warm welcome at the door. A nice drink and then dinner. The drinks are big, a nice wine list as well. The menu has range, from steaks, to sea food, nightly specials, usually a comfort food from your childhood.
Laid back though the atmosphere is, the food and service are definitely not. I am a steak man, and I have eaten many of America's "Super Steak Places". Believe me the steaks are are as good, served as you request them.
The servers are amazing. attentive and friendly. If you need one he or she is there and if you don't they are not. Obviously management and staff are paying attention.
When your beat down by work or traffic or just living in the 21st century, come to this slightly old fashioned place and recharge.
