Pasadena >Global > Tea Rose
awful service, great place, good food, very nice tea, nice ambience, great disppointment, good nothing
Citysearch Editorial Review. Half tea room, half florist shop, this Old Town Pasadena hybrid offers afternoon tea in a feminine, whimsical space that's a bit less refined (and stuffy) than other area tea shops. Inside, bistro tables are set amidst a trickling fountain, old-fashioned street lamps and shelves packed with tchothckes and tea accessories for sale. The walls are designed to look like you're dining in a courtyard surrounded by cottages, and puffy white clouds are painted on the sky blue ceiling above. The scent of fresh-cut flowers wafts in from the rear floral shop, and you can admire the blooms from a refrigerated case near the dining area. Guests can walk through the florist shop and snag a table on the patio out back, which features umbrella-shaded tables and bougainvillea-covered trellises. The menu offers full-sized and finger sandwiches, sweets, scones, salads and afternoon tea selections nicely presented atop doilies on three-tiered trays. Tea sandwiches ranging from shredded chicken and almond to edible flowers and cream cheese are served with fresh fruit and Devonshire cream. Scones come in nine different flavors, including cafe mocha, candied ginger spice and lemon raspberry. Rose sugar cookies are a tea time favorite, or you can indulge in chocolate mousse cake or a creme brulee cheese bar. Among the 50 or so tea selections, you'll find black, herbal, green, oolong and blended varieties, plus peach or raspberry iced tea for warmer days. Prices are as accessible as the atmosphere, with well-stocked afternoon tea service starting at $15.
Nice ambience but avoid if you're in a hurry. This place is cozy and the atmosphere is set like a patio garden setting. It also has a flower shop in the back. The sandwiches/scones and teas are delicious and decorated with tiny flower petals. The place can be noisy when everyone are talking. I can hardly hear my friends talking. The servers are courteous but the service is lacking. I had a reservation but my table wasn't ready when I got there. It took a few of minutes to set-up the table. It was also hard to catch the server's attention to get drinks refilled or pay the check. Be aware that 15% gratuity is added automatically to the bill as stated on the menu, although it is optional. I don't mind paying 15% or more for excellent service but there was almost none.
not bad. i had my bridal shower there last december. the secret garden is quaint and cozy and the flowers were BEAUTIFUL. however, the service was awful and they booked another private party right after mine so they were shooing us out the door 15 minutes before our time was up. otherwise it has great atmosphere
disappointing, misleading, not worth the money. I was horrified to find that the area where I was promised to have a party I was hosting was not set up 10 minutes before my guests were to arrive. It was a great disppointment because we discussed the plans in detail before I gave my deposit and it did not turn out to be what we talked about. The pictures in their website made the garden room seem so nice but in actuality it was a dump. The staff was not responsive and almost made us feel that accomodating us was an inconvenience. They did not even provide lighting in the backyard and could not even offer candles for our table oustide. It was a great disappoinment, an embarassing experience for me and my guest and not worth the hundreds of dollars spent .
It was a bad experince .
They dont have a staff that can help you and they are more focused on serving peopel tea or coffe then helping anyone with flowers.
What joke . If you want tea try it
Not a place for tea. This is more a flower/gift shop than a place for an afternoon tea. Don't expect any sweets...all we got was an almond cookie...very disappointing.
Wedding spectacular. Tea Rose Garden did the flowers for both my wedding nad my brothers and although they looked very different the flowers were spectacular at both! Grace decorated our cake and people are still talking about it. Also did a great job of giving me les expensive options to achieve the same effect. And not a single carnation or baby's breath to be found! Don't forget to set up a relaxing pre-bridal tea. It is enchanting in the back!
