Not Male-Friendly.
I first went to Burke Williams of Pasadena for a birthday present from my wife, and I was incredibly impressed by their service and beautiful facilities.
Then, when I wanted to schedule a return visit during the day on Saturdays, I was prevented to do so due to a "Women's Only" policy that includes taking over the Men's spa.
Thinking it was only a once-in-a-while happening, I tried again a few weeks later, only to discover that it is a regular policy to prevent men from using any of the facilities between 9am and 6pm on Saturdays. What's more, they refuse a price break for the man in pain wishing a treatment but being forced to change in a public bathroom without access to any of the "spa" facilities.
In my opinion, this policy is utterly ridiculous and completely prevents me and my golf buddies from going for a massage because we work during the week.
Why would Saturday be a women-only day? Do men never feel back pain or stress on Saturdays?
Please men, for the priniple of it, do not use their services until they change this unfortunately policy.
Inexperienced aesthetician. If you want to spend money to come to a teaching spa, this is it. The young lady who was my aesthetician was very unsure of herself and kept asking me for direction. The experience was strange and uneventful.
Decent overall..
Disappointed with the facial. (I do not care for spa service people who take longer than necessary to start the treatment and she took her time returning to the room.) She also spent a lot of time doing extractions and said hardly anything. (Most other estheticians I've seen have given various and helpful feedback about the condition of my skin, what I can do to improve it, etc.)
I walked out disappointed because the esthetician's attitude was as if BW was a factory and I was just another customer (which, I guess I am, but, after reading the other glowing reviews, I feel gypped because I was treated by someone who has lost passion for her job or couldn't wait for quitting hour).
I am giving 3 stars because of the facility. As for the person who gave me my facial, I'd definitely give her 2 stars.
Best Massage in LA.
I have gotten a lot of Massages and must say that I got the best massage ever from ANKA at this beautiful location in the midst of Old Town Pasadena. She listened to my complaints about aches and pains and addressed every bit of it, which made it a relaxing and restoring experience. By far the best Deep Tissue work I have gotten. I will be a regular client.
The facilities incl. sauna, jacuzzi and a steam room! Robes and slippers are provided as well. Quiet and peaceful with excellent customer service. Enjoy!
Best spa.
I love BW Pasadena--the spa-style facial is great, and the paraffin hand dip is divine. I once went to Amadeus and they made me walk into the hallway for the paraffin hand dip. That was very disappointing and I haven't been back there since.
The only thing I've ever complained about is the noise level in the spa. When you get a bunch of 20 year olds together, what do you expect? But they took my gripe to heart, and the next time I went the lights were dimmed and it definitely cut the noise level. People are most likely to whisper when it's dark. Whoever thought of that deserves a promotion!
Highly recommended.
Get the spa experience!. I've been to Burke Williams many times over the years and have never been disappointed. The staff is always attentive, prompt, and professional. I love their facilities! Everything is always immaculate. There are plenty of fresh towels, fresh robes, cucumber water (who doesn't like to be pampered with cucumber water?), etc. The ambience, the atmosphere the amenitites - everything is soothing, focused on relaxation. Definitely a great way to unwind, refresh, rejuventate yourself.
Hoooorible Customer Serive and Trashy Folks. I went there not too long ago for a massage and I have never received such horrible customer service as I did that day. I went in for a massage but ended coming out of there with a headache. Not only was the masseuse about 1/2 late, but the people in there were so ridiculously dirty and looking like if they were straight outta of a rap video. Loud abnoxious people. Gross. And to top it off, my massage was horrible. She was the worst masseuse in the world. Overpriced, and all the hype isnt worth another headache. Will NEVER go there again.
Overrated!. I don't understand what the fuss is all about. The mani/pedis are way overpriced and the technicians themselves don't compare to your local mom & pop shops!
If you want to feel beautiful, pampered and special, go there now!. The Burke Williams in Pasadena is by far my favorite of all spas. From the impeccable service to the heavenly calm and solitude of the quiet room, every aspect of a day at Burke Williams Pasadena will make you feel like the most treasured person on earth. Go for a massage or facial, but do plan on spending a full day there to adequately explore and enjoy all aspects of the luxury they provide. The only downside is paying for parking.
nestled in comfort. finally a spa retreat that no longer a resembles a women's locker room.
